A few years ago, I fell into a deep depression and was contemplating ending it. I found that almost all of my friends, both men and women, grew distant when I needed them most. I had one male friend stick by me more than anyone else, and when I told him how I felt like everyone was abandoning me, he told me the simple truth that seeing me in pain made them all uncomfortable, and nobody wanted to deal with it. It must have been hard to say, but I'm very glad he said it. I started acting happier a…

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry that you've felt/been feeling suicidal, that's a scary place to be and I've been there and back once. It was a long slog and it sucked hard. I hope things get better for you. The world is better with you in it. One thing I was told that really helped me back then, and also turned out to be true for me, was that while things might not get "better", per se, things will get different. Eventually, things will get different enough that the things that are hurting you w…

I think this is the cause of the increase in popularity of stoicism. Accepting that the world at large is as chaotic as it will be and focusing instead on how I lead my own life has helped a lot.

I was in the military and my wife left me while I was deployed. To hint at the severity without getting into too many details, she was using my paychecks to support her new family while I was gone, without me knowing, for months. I was shattered when I got home and found out. The therapist I sought was male but still said a lot of the same things, and eventually had me admit and internalize that it was my fault, or at the very least that it wasn't hers and on some level I must have deserved to b…

'The court stated "The State's interest in requiring minor parents to support their children overrides the State's competing interest in protecting juveniles from improvident acts, even when such acts may include criminal activity on the part of the other parent".' Disgusting.

Nah they'd just say how sexist the hiring practices are in those careers and how social constructs prevent women from advancing in them. Which of course means the women who are doing those jobs exceptional heros and inspirational, while the men are just doing the minimum in a role society handed them on a platter.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
