1	I'd like your thoughts on this--the lack of women in family films. Less than 1/3 being female is a problem, sure, but at least there is one arena where men and boys are still being portrayed positively? On your first point: It's peer pressure. Boys are seen as weak for liking anything that's feminine. An 11 year old boy excited to see The Little Mermaid (and even though it's a fantastic film) is viewed negatively by boys AND girls. I do agree it's socialized. Perhaps it will change with time? On your second point: It's true that it doesn't have to be as stupid as Eat Pray Love (I'm assuming it's stupid, I haven't seen it). How many women will you find in the audience of The Hangover, I Love You Man, The 40 Year old Virgin, or Anchorman. My point is what execs believe will make the most. I still think that Hollywood churns out the movies most Americans want to see. It's just business. Yes, there is a huge female population that will come out for a movie like Sex and the City, but that's rare (Twilight). The most popular movies tend to be the ones with male leads because both males and females are more likely to buy a ticket. Didn't Sex and the City already do that in a episode? How enticing is that to male moviegoers? The Hangover was funny according to American moviegoers. I think filmmakers do this for financial reasons. Boys don't want to see family films with female leads (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) while girls don't really care. As a result, the family movies with male leads make more money. You could apply this theory to all films as well. How many guys want to see Eat, Pray Love? How many women want to see The Hangover?
