1	School bans teen boys from wearing shorts in the summer — but skirts can be worn under its new 'gender-neutral' uniform policy That's an interesting idea, and when I'm more awake I'd like to spend more time thinking about it, for now I'd just like to ask you what problems you think would be fixed by doing so. It seems to me that this is a case of 'wouldn't it be nice' with no real consideration of the practical side of how we'd go about it. Thought 1: the overwhelming majority of men's clothing is socially acceptable for women to wear. The reverse is not true. Banning gender neutral clothing in favour of gendered clothing to further the goal of a gender neutral uniform is suspect at best. I'll never assume malice where stupidity will suffice, but you'd assume that teachers would be somewhat intelligent. So in banning shorts the school is effectively telling boys to either suffer the heat, or break a long held social convention by wearing clothing that wasn't designed with them in mind.
