Dunno why; my personal "motivated reasoning" explanation is that our psychology around gender roles has a fundamentally biological basis; a man that doesn't provide just isn't attractive, regardless of whether that's fair or not. I'm sure a feminist would point to gender norms and "the patriarchy" and say it's all just a mutable social construct. Except that it's not, because it turns out the majority of women want to spend time watching the babies they spend 9 months gestating. On a side note I would glady be a stay home dad if my wife made enough money to support us and she didn't mind. Don't do this. Unless you really want a divorce, that is.
