There's a bit more to this than is being let on here. Ms Roberts had complained to James Bird, the boss of the agency, the View, in Launceston – and husband of Mrs Bird - that she was not getting a fair representation of her properties displayed in the front window of the agency, the paper reported. In response, Mrs Bird called a meeting with Ms Roberts where she accused her colleague of being a ‘naughty little schoolgirl running to the teacher’. It wasn't just the unfriending. She was in a text…

Its a joke people. The ad wouldn't make sense if the men weren't hot. Its like an analogue to the old Axe ads where an awkward skinny kid sprays himself and hot girls flock to his side. Here the product is a bikini instead of a body spray.

And so can we you need a man to be a man and a woman to be a woman Eff that noise and eff your gender norms Dunst. Don't tell me I need to live a certain role because of what's between my legs.

UNC is a "local" college? What a disgusting article; men are being systematically driven away from higher education and now were lamenting the difficultly these privileged students have keeping a boyfriend? My tip to them: there's a gigantic engineering school in the next county overflowing with eligible men. Gather the courage to step outside your liberal oasis of a town.

I’m not denying presumption of innocence. The context of this article is court cases where its already proven that sex occurred and the defendant has admitted to willfully engaging in the act.
/r/MensRights31/10/14 04:09 PM
-4

Sex is assumed to be "wrongdoing". We have formal laws that criminalize ANY sex act that isn't performed under specific circumstances (eg adulthood, sobriety, consent).
/r/MensRights31/10/14 06:10 AM
-7

No, it's not like giving a gift. Sex isn't something that's inherently permissible until someone decides it isn't. Sex is like trespassing. Sex is a trespass until it's explicitly permitted. There's a reason why it's a crime to have sex with people who can't consent.
/r/MensRights31/10/14 05:49 AM

Wouldn't the plaintiff be forced to prove non-consent? How is that good? That's like having to prove you did not consent to your mugger taking your wallet. Can someone explain?

This is a gender rights sub and this is a story about gender rights propaganda. This isn't just another "feminist behaving badly" post. The New York Times ran a fabricated article. It was picked up by various news outlets. It's very worrying that such propaganda disperses through the public unchecked, and we end up with skewed perceptions of gender attitudes in far away countries.

You need to disassociate /r/MensRights from MRAs. Just like the Photography part of 4chan isn't representative of that profession, neither is a reddit sub representative of an entire gender equality movement. Half the people in this sub are kids looking for an outlet for their bubbling sarcasm.

The poster is great, but what's up with the name of the club? "Men's pride" implies people are supposed to pride themselves on being a specific gender.

I was totally nodding along to this article... ...until the writer started dismissing genuinely sexist stuff like toys that promote gender stereotypes and referring to women as "fillies". He finishes by equating male chivalry with "being nice" and "respect towards women". -facepalm-

The way you describe creep is certainly justified, but you don't think that some people apply the "creepy" label unfairly? I don't think that "creep" is the analog of slut. That would probably be "virgin".

I disagree wholeheartedly with any implication that teaching boys to be stoic or callous is healthy in modern society. Also, the article makes way too many unqualified statements about the nature of boys, and implies that there is a BIG difference between the way boys and girls think. Its just a lot of nice-sounding opinions with a bit of fuzzy logic to make people disagree with the film and feel good about it. Typical Sommers.

According to Moss-Racusin, the applicants in the staged interviews were judged equally competent, but the "modest" males were less liked, a sign of social backlash. Modesty was viewed as a sign of weakness, a low-status character trait for males that could adversely affect their employability or earnings potential. Modesty in women, however, was not viewed negatively nor was it linked to status. :(

An individual earns respect. A gender, as a protected class, deserves respect inherently. When you disrespect an entire gender, that is exactly sexism. It says "If a boy does not respect women", not "If a boy does not respect these women". The object of the statement is women as a gender.
/r/MensRights14/01/14 01:50 AM
0

The message is not about judging all women based upon these three but to judge all women as individuals and without an inherent claim to undeserved respect. Except it says "If a boy does not respect women", not "If a boy does not respect these women". The question refers to women as a gender, not the individuals in the picture.

I'm not saying there won't be consequences. Ideally, you have boys and girl's teams. If there aren't enough girls to make a team, then it is the responsibility of those girls to seek for recruits. This is how sports clubs are created. If the boys team lacked for recruits, then it would be the responsibility of the boys to produce recruitment. However, if a school has already decided to allow girls to play on the boys team, they need to allow the boys the same in the interest of equality. The sch…

This is hardly surprising since improv sucks and isn’t funny As much as I want to agree with all the opinions in this article, this kind of flat, presented-as-fact statement with no qualification makes me doubt the objectivity of the writer.

No, its a social issue. By your reasoning, everything could be a "bodily" issue and the word loses its meaning.

Men do have bodily autonomy when it comes to pregnancy and abortion. A man is not being forced to undergo biological changes. This is about a woman's right to decide what happens to her own flesh. Legal matters regarding parenthood, while very important in their OWN right, are beside the point.
/r/MensRights07/01/14 02:20 AM

I don't see any working links to actual research, and there's no mention of gender identity as it relates to "Father" and "Mother". The only purpose this article appears to serve is to subtly incite doubts about the viability of same-sex parenthood.

The guy couldn't have been more tactless. You need to show some kind of care in asking someone to commit to you for life. A 9$ trinket still in the plastic bag with receipt is just a ridiculous way of doing that, whether you're a man or a woman. You're hung up on the "men are expected to put on an expensive display" trope when that isn't the issue here. The issue is not showing an ounce of care, and treating marriage like it's no more significant than choosing which movie to rent.

Accusations of this nature should not be made unless the victim is willing to be accountable to them. You assume the "administration" acts in a fair manner, but there have been many stories of schools acting against the accused before allegations are proven or even introduced to the public law system. It's more appropriate to assume that an accusation will result in a corrective action, regardless of the validity of the accusation. An anonymous form exploits this social flaw by streamlining the …

I see the responder taking things out of context or misinterpreting when convenient. I also see the responder stating generalizations about feminism as though they are fact (though Jaclyn is also guilty of this to an extent). It's not a very strong rebuke when viewed from a neutral standpoint. A few good points are made, but Jaclyn's quoted statement doesn't necessarily go against those points, so how can they be called "rebuttals"? The only way one can view this as a valid rebuke is if we assum…

When it comes to feminism, I tend to agree with that perspective. It seems like there is a strong emotional attachment formed to that group, a near religious fervor to the ideals, and to challenge the intentions of the overall group itself, results in negative emotions and censoring of that information. A bit like talking to a religious person. Feminists are not a "group" anymore than people who believe in racial equality are a group. Feminism is a concept, and it means "Equal rights for women".…

You're not against Feminism. Feminism will always be "Women's Rights" and anti-feminist will always be "Anti-women's rights". That is the definition of Feminism, regardless of what people who call themselves "Feminists" do today. These people are to Feminism what extremists are to Islam. They are absolutely the most vocal and politically active part of Islam, but their actions do not change the fact that the vast majority of Islamic people are peaceful and do not plaster themselves with an "ISLA…

Then it's our job to differentiate those people. If anything, we should expose toxic individuals and specific instances of injustice. We should NOT be calling out "Feminists" as a group. Doing so will just continue to make the public perceive MRA as "anti-women".

Yellow fever is a medical condition. Asian fetish is a porn category. Academia is pointlessly masturbatory as often as it is insightful. No, I have never heard the term "Asiaphile". I think you're exaggerating the social perception.
/r/MensRights18/11/13 02:39 PM

The Asian fetish is generally defied as white men who prefer Asian women, presumably because they are quiet and submissive; however, this 2007 study from Columbia University[1] shows no racial preference in men, but rather a distaste for non-Asian, non-white men in Asian women. I am a white man dating an Asian woman and I have never heard this term used to describe anything other than a category of pornography. It seems like you're exaggerating the use of the term to force your argument.

I'm not saying there aren't a few jerks out there. I'm saying that focusing on them is hurting MRA by making it a pariah. Regardless of what "Feminists" are doing today, Feminism is widely viewed as a valid cause. Society recognizes the challenges women have had as a gender throughout history. On the other hand society has very little familiarity with MRA or the issues facing men today. Unlike most classes, men, as a gender, don't have a distinct history of struggle or discrimination. Misogyny is the act of disagreeing with women. You made a concise, clear statement about the literal meaning of a word, and you're making a point about correcting people who use it. Since you're relying on that definition to make your point, its perfectly appropriate for someone to point out that your definition is wrong. You're probably right about wasting my time though.

Shira Tarrant and Jennifer Baumgardner are feminist leaders. Their activism achievements are recognized and lauded publicly. Tori Amos and Margaret Cho are feminists who are vastly more prominent than the individuals you mention. Amanda Marcotte and Jessica Valenti are small potatoes. You're focusing on extremists; attaching the feminist cause to their actions. Its not one bit constructive. You're just building boogeymen to justify your own spiteful opinions. For pete's sake, its like you've built a laundry list of specific opinions you expect everyone to adhere to before we can accomplish something meaningful. Find me a Feminist who: Hello. It shouldn't matter to you what I think of your last two bullets. Those are not actual issues affecting men, but excuses for you to use to justify your disdain for people like me. I can agree on the rest, and so can the rest of my feminist friends. This sub reddit isn't as much a movement as it is a sounding board for people to rage against feminism (rather, their perception of feminism). Until we grow out of our petty obsession with the opinions of a few extreme feminists, we won't win any friends to our cause.

Sadly, a large portion of the redditors come here not because they want to build men up, but because they want to put feminism down. My wife was a female child in Thailand. She had two brothers and one sister. The sons got college funds, sports and music lessons, and cars. Thanks for the relevant data, but it only samples from one country: the USA. I looked at the chart, and I'm seeing 20% of women being victims, and 1.4% of men being victims. You're focusing on the wrong things. Divorce Court inequalities and lack of social programs/assistance for men's issues are the biggest ones that can't be dismissed by feminists. Male victims of DV and rape are pitiable, to be sure, but there are vastly, exponentially more female victims. Even with all the social support out there, the number of female victims that don't come forward (whether out of fear or mere confusion) dwarfs the total number of male victims.
