"I think a lot of women (and men) don't understand that the physical abuse doesn't start right off the bat in these relationships; the abuser will wait until your spirit has been worn down enough, so that you'll believe you deserve the abuse when it happens." I'm sort of tempted to post my backstory after seeing that because it completely resonates with me and my past attempts at meeting my Captain.

Holy mackerel. You managed to put into well-written paragraphs what I've been bumbling around for months. The months that he HAS stuck with the budget has been when I absolutely made sure that our money went into the envelopes, and I've asked him to consider the savings as a bill as well. I'll present these ideas to him when we sit down at the beginning of January to do our finances and I think it'll go really well! Thank you so so much oh my goodness.

I'm completely willing to work, would honestly enjoy it to a degree. At the moment, however, I'm incredibly young and about to start my first year in college and his desire is that I focus on school and let him handle income.

I think you are 100% correct, and I'm very aware of my controlling behavior and am doing everything I can to change my impulse for it. I think it stems from an innate fear of trusting someone else's decisions because I was the reliable/responsible/dependable person in my household growing up. It's something I'm definitely working on attacking at the root, so it's more a matter of time and effort than anything else. I honestly think writing the situation out and answering those questions at the b…

A year and a half ago I stumbled onto Return of Kings and read through a few articles. Every single one of them made me livid, as I was a diehard feminist who was incredibly depressed and unhappy in my relationship. For whatever reason I kept reading it, and began taking their teachings on women to heart. A week ago I found this subreddit and have been absorbing its teachings and have already noticed an improvement both in my happiness and my wonderful husband's! I know I'm rather late for this …

Thank you very much for replying! I think my biggest problem is that I tend to question his decision making, and that's something I need to fix internally. I love and adore him with all of my heart, so now I need to learn how to respect him and trust in his decisions, like you said. Are there any books or resources with advice on learning how to respect him in a way that HE feels respected, rather than how I think I am respecting him?

I love this! My current beauty care routine: once a week I soak my head in coconut oil for several hours in the morning, washing it out when I take my shower. Usually do housework when it's fresh, and when I'm done I'll relax and work on some artistic endeavors. Every morning I spray my face with a combo of purified water and peppermint oil, 10 drops to a travel-size spray bottle of water is plenty! Then Aveeno's daily moisturizer with 15 SPF, and my makeup is face powder/brow powder/mascara. At…
