A good friend of mine has engaged in various poly arrangements throughout the years (sometimes the primary partner, sometimes the secondary etc), and she says it is easily the most drama-filled relationship model possible by default. My additional take is that it also precludes true intimacy with any one partner, breadth over depth. It's a way to codify being a fuckboy/fuckgirl.

Was previously married for a decade, been divorced four years now. When I don't have my kids I can meet up with friends or have a solo day out as I please. Just to offer a counterpoint (or maybe a caveat) from my own experience: for this set up to have a chance at success, both "givers" need to have strong boundaries and self-love that are often the result of hard learned lessons that recovering from toxic dynamics with "takers" create.
