I think first prize 🥇from my life goes to an ex-friend who had been sleeping with a MARRIED man for well over a year “He’s such a lovely kind man” and the humdinger “he’s very trustworthy” I bet his wife didn’t think so

This drives me up the wall. I’ve got a friend where if I ask if she wants to meet for a coffee, 15 minutes before she will text “WE are on OUR way”. So it’s too late for me to object. Then I have to sit there with her LV boyfriend. I’ve tried asking to meet only her but this was ignored, she still brings him. I only see her in group situations now.

An acquaintance (he’s late 40s) was complaining he wasn’t getting matches on tinder. Out of curiosity I asked what his lower age limit is. TWENTY! I burst out laughing at that, he looked really mad.

A friend of mine viewed a room advertised on spare room recently, the scrote who owned the flat offered her reduced rent “to keep him company, wink”. Apparently this is extremely common! 🤢🤢

Point 4 is so key. I had to distance myself from a pick me friend because it turned out she used to tell her LVM about ALL my personal problems (I’m talking ones that went back 20 years, and things you do not repeat to others). She seemed to think men found her endearing and honest when she blabbed like this!

I recently witnessed a friends (emotionally immature for a 45 year old) husband lose the plot over the WiFi being slow for 30 seconds when he was doing something on the computer. He was pacing around the room, huffing loudly, acting edgy, and demanding they switch internet provider. I’m not exaggerating, it was slow for 30 SECONDS. Lord knows what he’s like when faced with an actual problem.

Number 2 is key for me, I’ve been told by a (mortified) HVM in my life that no man worth dating would use a dating app, he’d be busy doing other things with his free time. I also think that most men are viewing porn, only fans, and semi-naked ladies on Instagram etc on their phones. Then they fire up a dating app and their porn addled brains assume that women on dating apps will act in the same way for them!

I’m privy to the comments on anonymous staff surveys where I work, in the tech area there a LOT of comments about women getting “unfair special treatment and opportunities”. They take real issue with women being given equal opportunities to them.

I used to go to a salsa night with a few female friends because we wanted to learn how to salsa dance and also be more active. Holy hell the amount of weird and awkward thirsty guys there solely to try to pick up women was frightening. We used to dance with each other to escape the advances of the sweaty octopuses. If I’d viewed it as a potential dating opportunity I’d have been disappointed to put it mildly.

It’s good to see if they will watch shows with a female lead too, especially of their own accord. I think a lot of men write off female led shows as being inferior, and it’s just because they don’t like/respect/try to understand (etc etc) women.

My sister used to insist she had never experienced abuse from men. Then one day she made an offhand comment - when she lost her virginity, it was because her boyfriend said he would dump her if she didn’t have sex with him immediately. I was absolutely lost for words.

Once I temporarily stayed/lived with a friend and her long term partner, she waited on him hand a foot while he sat there like a prince! I don’t know if she thought this was a normal way to behave in a relationship, or she was ashamed she did it so never mentioned this dynamic. I suspected he threatened to leave her if she didn’t act like his mother, and she didn’t want to be alone.

I had to let an old friendship go because of this. One boyfriend cheated on her and she turned a blind eye, one was addicted to weed, and the latest one showed no signs of divorcing his wife. I went on a really weird date about 5 years ago. It really unsettled me. I googled the things he was doing afterwards (it shook me that much) and found the red pill / PUA stuff online. I’m swinging between spitting feathers and being upset about this. It’s made so many women angry, particularly due to the reaction of men. I have a good one about housework dodging. Years ago I lived with a guy and we were moving house. We needed to clean the house properly before giving the keys back to the landlord. On cleaning afternoon, the boyfriend has sneaked out the house. Then there’s a knock at the door. HVM are very unlikely to be on Tinder. Most men see tinder as a free prostitution (AKA hookup) app. I’ve been told this by several male friends.

he always introduced us as early as he could My dad used to do exactly this when I was a teenager. I was regularly summoned to his house to meet each new girlfriend. He had a revolving door of them at one point. I used to accidentally mix up details about them, then awkwardness would ensue. I’m sure it was so he could pretend to these women he was a good dad and an involved parent.

Yes if I lived with a man again I would 100% keep a keen eye on his consumption of food and utilities, I would expect him to contribute more accordingly. Especially so if he’s keen on expensive food products eg meat and alcohol.

A few weeks ago I had a message from a guy I broke things off with about a year ago. I ended things with him because after a small disagreement he gave me the silent treatment for 2 days. He was MAD when I told him why I wouldn’t continue to see him. (Side note - an ex of mine years ago admitted to using the silent treatment as a form of punishment. This behaviour is extremely deliberate) Anyway, he messages me a wall of text asking for closure (?), some flimsy excuse about work issues, some poo…

This isn’t new, maybe they’re just all sharing their tactics online with each other more these days. I gave my young cousin advice to watch out for this fuckery when she started dating about 10 years ago Filed under the same category - you arrive dressed up for a date and they’re not there. Then you get a text “oh sorry babe I fell asleep why don’t you just come over here instead”

My theory - guys think that women will be wanting a holiday season partner. So they use that to try to get some sex. I had 2 contact me yesterday too, both now blocked. The county I’m in is under lockdown, the audacity, do they really think I’d want to go for some cheap-ass walk in the cold with them?

Completely agree rejecting men online is a lot safer than real life. I know I’m a sample size of 1, but I’ve only had proper relationships with men I’ve met in real life. These men were not on OLD when I met them. I’m mid 30s, tried using OLD between 2016 and 2019, honestly I felt it was a waste of time due to the quality of men on there. I think it’s also better meeting men through social circles as they often behave a lot better, rather than when you’re a stranger off the internet.

I feel like online dating success stories are similar to the stories about women who have sex on a first date and end up married to the guy. I mean, sure, it might pan out in the end, but really these stories are very much the exception not the rule. I used online dating on and off for a few years. The men who I would have considered dating in the longer term were in demand, and they knew it. I saw a comment on another thread that men looking for relationships online are usually unattractive or …

I’m mid 30s and I have never dated a man I would consider having children with. I knew it would all fall to me, they have been brought up to expect it. I’ve only known of 2 men in my whole life who PROPERLY shared the load (my step dad, and a friends husband).

Why oh why are young women going along with all of this? The men in the article are clearly exaggerating the numbers, but still it shouldn’t be remotely “easy” for them to get what they want at the expense of women. Any male friend I’ve asked, who uses dating apps, has echoed what these guys say, they are primarily using the apps to find hookups. This is even men in their 30s and 40s.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy14/09/20 02:57 PM

I honestly think that 90% of what is written by men on OLD can be translated to “I’m here for sex”
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy04/09/20 06:44 PM

From my own anecdotal experience, I was never taken seriously by men I met online. Only the ones I met in real life. So I no longer bother with OLD!

I also think that men view women they meet online differently to women they meet in real life. Its like they automatically think you’re not a HVW if they meet you online 🤷‍♀️

I scrolled for a comment like this. After reading the Attached book I put myself firmly in the ‘anxious’ category. But then I wondered why I never ever feel anxious about relationships with family, friends, colleagues etc. At that point I’d been dating on and off for about 3 years. Looking back, the vast majority of the men I came across in the dating pool were essentially commitment-phobes, no wonder I felt anxious when dealing with men! Now if I meet a man who shows a hint of avoidant behaviou…

I would never in a million years have a house date as a first date with someone off the internet, for safety reasons. I assumed all women would be the same. However there must be women that do this, otherwise these creepy men wouldn’t ask?

Yes. I saw family friend’s new husband on a dating site, complete with muscly shirtless selfies, the profile said “online 6 hours ago”. I took screenshots and sent them to her. She came back saying it was ok, she had spoken to him, and he said his friends had made a profile as a joke when they were out at a bar. I rolled my eyes so hard I almost detached a retina.

Same here. On all the other sites I’ve tried, I get asked for dates. On Bumble I rarely even get a reply, and very occasionally a dead end conversation. There’s something in the ‘woman messaging first’ dynamic which is making the difference here I think.

When Starbucks brought this in I was staggered they didn’t consider the personal safety implications, especially for young women. Often I’m behind a group of teenage girls who give their names, if I was a creepy perv I could easily follow one of them elsewhere and approach them using their name, as a confidence trick that I somehow know them! I always say “it’s ok I can remember what I ordered thanks!”

I have experienced this too. I’m not in the US but I’m in a “global city”. In my age range, I get much more interest from men from other countries that live here. They are generally more attractive and accomplished, and they put more effort into dating me than the men from here originally. The men from here who show interest are generally 10-20 years older than me, no thanks! I can’t figure out why this is.
