I hear what you’re saying. In South Africa, our unemployment rate is ludicrous so it seems that employers are in a favourable position when it comes to recruitment. We have very aggressive labour laws though and affirmative action is legislated. A lot of the sentiment is against affirmative action from wealthy to upper middle class households. This always gets me, and I always bring it up. 50% means 50% everywhere. I work for a multinational corporate and they have a mandate to achieve 50% female employment at every band/level on the pay scale. So from the least paying to highest paying jobs, 50% female employment by 2025. That makes more sense to me. This mandate is for the EMIA region of the business, I believe.
