100 years ago female doctors were rare. Now enrolment is around 50%. Why is it so hard to believe that in 50 years the same will be true for "science/math/imagination"?

Really? I work with computers. I've never had a negative reaction. If you work with computer, you're an uneducated, psychopath moron by default. Correlation is not causation. :-) But seriously, I suspect you (like me) just aren't particularly good at reading social cues and jump to conclusions.

100 years ago, male doctors outnumbered female doctors by a huge factor. One could claim that it was interest, not ability; most women didn't want to be doctors. At the time, that was true. Few women wanted to be doctors because it was not socially acceptable. More than anything, us humans look to our social groups for validation.
