Still sounds bad. With that idea, a dude still has to get convicted of sexual assault for her to fess up. Yes, it would be a relief to have the conviction overturned but you still have to be convicted of sexual assault and go to proson before that happens.

What concerns me is, imagine if a girl falsely accuses a dude for...reasons. Then in a circumstance where she would previously have come clean, now she knows that she will be facing jail time for lying so she just commits to the lie. In a perfect world, she would absolutely be severely punished but it's probably better in the long run if the penalty is a slap on the wrist.

It is exactly that and it is a very common thing to do either in studies, surveys or polls when youre trying to get a particular answer. Thats partly how there can be a poll done by conservatives and one by liberals on the same issue and both show results that favor their party. How you word your questions matters and they know it.

There is a VERY good reason that innocent until proven guilty is the law in our country. If the accusation is true, it will likely come out and the accuser will have their day in court and the accused will go to jail. But, as the OP points out, until due process has run its course, we don't actually know who the victim is. Assuming that the accuser is automatically the victim can absolutely ruin the life of an innocent person. Even if they're exonerated, if we as a society assume they're guilty from the time the accusations start flying, that person will forever be labeled as a rapist (or whatever). I have worked in many offices and had both male and female bosses and from my personal experience (granted personal experience does not equal study - worthy data) employers give the highest pay to the people who consistently show up and contribute the most to the company.
