I was indicating to the Academic and Community Studies below that, sorry for the miscommunication. However, a study is not invalid simply because it fails to include men- that does not mean women are not frequently street harassed. Why not try crime statistics that include made-to-penetrate statistics? You'll find that men and women are sexually harassed at nearly the same rate. Being raped and being harassed aren't the same thing, although yes I am aware of how frequent male rape is.

-They're not opinion polls -If all survey evidence is disregarded then so are most statistics, including ones regarding sexual assault/domestic violence.

I agree they'd make anyone unsafe, but women are more often victims of harassment, men are often more likely the victims of violence. I don't think there's anything wrong with the signs if they just change it to people.

I agree. I think what they were trying to do is basically say "if someone doesn't want to talk to you, stop trying to talk to them" which also happens a lot. You're right that the phrasing could have been better.

Sorry, everyone here is getting up and arms about this... do any of you realize that this sort of thing happens to women on trains, frequently? It makes women feel very scared and very unsafe. It's not saying "men do this", it's saying "don't do this", which I agree should be basic common sense, but I've heard enough stories that let me know this isn't a once-in-a-lifetime incident.

I agree. This issue is valid without complaining about feminism. You don't need to compare the two to assert that men are also shown unrealistic body images. It makes you sound needlessly aggressive.

My bigger worry is that people will site a statistic that is inaccurate. Although, to simply use it as proof against the idea that women don't abuse wouldn't be a problem, personally.

Thank you for providing these sources! Do you have any with verbal abuse, out of curiosity? But I'm glad I can see sources for other abuses as well as the ones they listed. It makes their claims much more credible. It is however, incredibly disheartening to see that women are as abusive if not more so than men. I've tried mentioning it to people before, and it's generally met with disbelief. Hopefully with your sources I'll be able to get more support.

They should at least make it far more inclusive than what it was. If the results are true, they upset me because societal gender roles mean that people will deny it. However, this test does not support their conclusion.

Men are not willing to report sexual assault nearly as often for a plethora of reasons. Wasn't the survey anonymous? And how does that eliminate the fact that sexual abuse is abuse, and is more and more viewed as a violent act? Why wouldn't men be less willing to admit to other forms of abuse? Women often use weapons much, much more Source? Also, I was pointing out something the survey itself admitted to. And I'll concede on manipulation, but if they provide examples of verbal abuse like they di…

They then come to the conclusion, however, that women are overall more aggressive within a specific age range. If that's true, fine. But they need to use more than those three narrow questions to prove it.
/r/MensRights18/02/13 11:01 PM

Or the results are not all inclusive and therefore the statistic is not very reliable.

This is a terrible survey. They're ignoring sexual assault, more aggressive physical attacks, manipulation, and verbal abuse. Domestic violence is so much more than just shoving and hitting.

I admit that wasn't a smart thing for Hilary to say. However, she wasn't speaking to veterans, she was consoling women who had lost their loved ones. I agree she should have found a better way to comfort them though.

I agree that the courts in some cases are skewed against women and that it desperately needs to be solved. I've never seen something in MRA that blatantly cries for women to lose rights though. The right to "not be offended" at the workplace. You should elaborate on this.

What is CTS? Not all data MRAs use is better and independent. Sometimes it can be unreliable. Although plenty of members do use independent data, there are cases where that isn't so.

I've never heard of that group before so I'm curious to their history. Have they been misrepresented their entire history or just recently?

Mras tend to use independent research and facts, feminists use verbal abuse, slander and advocacy research and myths... so. So do some feminists (use independent research and facts). There's nothing wrong about admitting there are bigots on both sides. I've seen plenty of MRAs mindlessly berate women and talk about how problems they face isn't a big deal. They are. So are men's. I've never seen something outside of reddit where MRAs reach out to feminists.

Feminism is made by the people within it. I'm a feminist and I know others who are feminists and, when made aware of the plights men face, do not scoff them off as being anti-feminist. By saying "no matter how reasonable mras have tried to be" you're implying a sense of reason MRAs have that feminists don't have. Could you show me the sources for times when MRA has reached out with feminists?
/r/MensRights03/03/12 03:35 PM

feminism calls it anti-feminist and attacks it. I do not call it anti-feminist and I will not unless someone posts something that is discriminatory towards women or encourages a loss of our rights. Thats the way its always been, no matter how reasonable mras have tried to be. Not every MRA is reasonable. I've seen bigots on this subreddit just like I've seen them on /r/Feminists.

I hate that title. You aren't a victim-blaming anti-feminist if you believe men are sometimes falsely accused of rape. I deeply resent that idea.

Is this really the place for this? These things are actually said to rape victims, and you're just downplaying that. Yeah, there are false rape accusations, and they're horrible. But most of them are true.

I'm not trying to downplay the amount of misandry of /r/feminism, I'm just saying I haven't seen it before this. Maybe a comment here or there, but not on the scale of misogyny as I've seen on /r/mensrights. I'm not trying to say /r/feminism doesn't have its share of misandry, merely that I haven't seen it as much.

I wasn't expecting misogynist or even unintelligent answers from MRA redditors. I didn't expect so many comments so be full of misandry though :/

Author of the post he replied to: I actually saw a lot of misandry in the post I created, which helped explain why a lot of MRAs get angered by feminists. In prior posts I had read in /r/feminism, I hadn't seen the same amount of misandry as I had in mine.

I'm going to do the super obvious thing here that might've been done already. Please imagine the following is in the much needed font of Sarcastica. You're right. Feminism is about women being superior to men This obviously means if you're a feminist you hate men. Proven here -End need of Sarcastica- So, clearly, a woman who believes that men are/should be inferior to women are not feminists. Culturally, yes, the definition has gotten warped, and frankly it's due to idiocy and lack of education.…

As both a subscriber to r/feminists and r/mensrights I'm gonna disagree here. When substantial points are made, I upvote them. I bookmark them to read again later so I can commit them to memory. So, yeah, not all of us are like that.

I disagree. Co-ed sports wouldn't be equal due to the fact that women can't physically keep up with men. It would just frustrate both genders. We don't mix minor league teams with major league teams because ones simply more skilled than the other. It's the same principle.
/r/MensRights24/11/11 06:35 PM

Where are all the "feminists" arguing for unisex sporting competitions? This makes it sound like you think it's silly that feminists (why is that in quotations?) are silly for not demanding co-ed sports. That's different than pleading for more media attention in regards to sports, which it seems you're arguing in your reply.

...You do realize it is a biological fact that, post-puberty, men are physically stronger than women? That's like the 3rd graders getting mad because they have to play against 5th graders. One team is bigger and stronger than the other. Most unisex sports are extremely hard for women to excel in because the men are simply stronger. That being said, there are plenty of women who can hold their own against men in sports; I'm just generalizing.
