I'm not saying that it's a legit reason to keep a father away from his child, it just that the age of the baby combined with the time limits mentioned sounds a lot like the visitation restrictions I've seen in similar situations. Like I said...I hope your daughters are literate

Excellent job not reading my comments. I even said that nursing is not a justification for keeping the father away from the child, just trying to establish the situation. I hope your daughters are reasonable, literate people...unlike their father.

Oh, she only went for about a year (maybe less?). My point is that a breastfeeding 5 month old may not be best off being separated from his mother for long periods of time, especially not right away if he is used to only one caregiver. Perhaps in the OP's case (and let's all remember that we don't know all the details), it is best to (while the child is very young) limit time together to visitation or caring for the child in a short term manner (like, for the afternoon), rather than longer term …

The baby had his SAHFather caring for him, no one new. The kid is now 4, and has no more attachment issues. shrug

I don't think it's irrelevant. My sister breastfed her kid, and pumped extra for the hours when she worked, and that kid was super fussy and difficult/impossible to calm without her actual breast being involved. I'm not saying that it's a legit reason to keep a father away from his child, it just that the age of the baby combined with the time limits mentioned sounds a lot like the visitation restrictions I've seen in similar situations.
