Pick up cues from her sentences you can relate to (you both like movies, same foods, places etc), expand the conversation, have an opinion (even ask for hers). Keep ur conversations relatable to each other, and if you drift where she’s saying too little ask her a question to engage her back into the conversation. I find when trying to break the ice I go for what they’re interested in. People tend to open up and glow when they talk about something they’re passionate about, weather it’s a hobby, interest, sport, ect. Once you get an idea of what they’re interested in keep asking questions, pitch in and add stories to help you both bond. If they’re guarded mention something you like and you’re excitement will help ease the mood and give them the opportunity to engage with you.
