Something is just not adding up here. I think some details are lost in translation. I hope this response clears some up. :) you are agreeing to be a mother to these kids. In a way, yes. But they're teenagers and they have a very involved mother and father already. I'm happy to be a trusted adult in their lives, but if I tried to be a mother to them they'd react very badly! It seems to me like you just want to erase his old life, and start a new one with just him. I'm struggling to understand why…

Thank you. I'm going to be re-reading this to let it really sink in.

I've asked him about whether his reluctance to move has to do with his kids, and he tells me that's not an issue. I believe him. So I'm concluding that it's about committing in general (taking risks) or committing to me, specifically.

Thanks for replying! While it may not be convenient for you, the house being in the neighborhood is actually good for the kids. It will be a lot harder for dad to have to pick them up every time he wants to see them, or they want to see him. As a divorced and remarried mom, I would love it if my ex was walking distance. My son could see his father a lot more. I've asked him if this is the reason he is resistant to moving away. He says it isn't. He bought his place because it was the best value f…

Your opinion of me has me baffled. Are you projecting something from your own life? Read too many fairy tales with evil stepmothers? I like his kids. I mentioned them and their happiness regarding getting a new home. He's told me they miss having a house, so they'd benefit too. My boyfriend hates that they let themselves in to his place when he is not home, and has addressed it with them multiple times. They eat him out of house and home, and he has to make yet another trip to the grocery store …

Thanks. I appreciate it. The ex will be in his life as long as the kids are (always). She's been such a nightmare to him that he plans on cutting off communication with her as soon as the kids are adults. He speaks to her as little as humanly possible now. He's actually got a more open and honest relationship with his kids than she does (it's a constant warzone at her house. She's a kook and sustains conflict rather than de-escalating it), so any communication when they're adults would likely be…

I don't think that's fair at all and I'm not sure where you're getting that. I certainly don't think his kids are baggage or that this is a competition.

Thanks for your feedback. The door will still be left open, the kids will still sneak over to eat and use the restroom, his ex will still hate you, etc. The door may still be left open occasionally, and the ex will definitely still hate me, but the only reason the kids are able to pop over and the ex has been able to walk in is because of the shared neighborhood. It's a two minute walk to her place. The pop-overs - which my boyfriend dislikes - would have to stop in a new neighborhood and I feel…
