The common "argumentum ad nausem" fallacy is popular amongst people who don't know how to argue, or from those who are unintelligent already. In most cases, it's kind of a given that they tend to argue in a non-productive manner, as they think it's a solution because other people also do it. It could potentially be seen as an "appeal to popularity" or mob rule-type of faulty logic that could also be feeding their belief that it's a proper method of arguing.
