Well... I started small with just a buddy of mine and me. We found a growing product and started selling all day every day. We spent every profit dollar on expansion. Now we manufacture it ourselves in our own facility with a dedicated production, marketing, and sales staff. That's the short version at least.

So true. I watched my older brother fall into financial ruin so going through school I always told myself that I must have at least $1 to my name if you add up debts and assets. You're right. Valuation in this sense comes from estimation on 20 months revenue and investor risk or what they would want as a return and in what time frame. While we have done around $2.5m in revenue, the company is worth around $4m. In 2 years it may hold a $4m valuation but we have realized $5m in revenue.
