Except the Judge heard that testimony and saw all the evidence and still found them guilty. We weren't in the courtroom, we didn't get to hear from the now convicted rapist. The "hole" just speaks to the credibility of the victim, but it doesn't exonerate the rapist. This is like "Intro to Criminal Law", but I'm a lawyer IRL, so maybe it's just because I understand how the system works.

He says it was consensual. She says it wasn't. Does her lying about their previous consensual sex not damage her credibility? Yes, it can. It's a he-said-she-said case. No one knows if the sex was consensual except them so the fact that she deliberately lied about the nature of their relationship is a major red flag. And that's why the Judge in this case makes findings of fact and decided he was guilty. That's why you go to Court, to weigh evidence for and against the charges brought. The Judge …

However, during that encounter, he forced himself on her, without her consent. This is the only part that matters. If I hooked up with a girl yesterday and then forced myself on her today, I don't get a pass because she was okay with it yesterday. That's still rape.

I'm a lawyer. Some things are so clear as day they can't be spun. At that point it's just damage control, i.e. settle it for as low as possible.

I wish civilians get half as much consideration when they are gunned down by police..... The unarmed persons gunned down by police should have. Those who were armed and dangerous should not have. There's a difference that many seem to forget. FFS This one cop is wounded on duty and this guy here says he should have been more forceful, wtf. All while thousands are murdered by overzealous cops. Yes, "this one cop" should have been more forceful. He wasn't, and he got shot. Why should this cop have…

Frankly, the fact that he's so clearly not in the wrong is why he got shot. Had he been kore forceful before she got back into the car many people would've bad a different reaction to how he acted. Therein lies the problem. Hindsight is always 20/20. This cop was very understanding, caught a bullet for his trouble.

Yea, the initial cell phone video didn't show what this video shows. It was obvious she was the aggressor even before the surveillance video was released.

Sentences are rarely the real deterrent in murder cases. There's general deterrence, which is what the other commenter is referencing (I wont commit X crime because the penalty is steep) and specific deterrence (we locked up X murderer so they can't murder again). Society at large doesn't trust murderers to reform themselves. Some societies do, it still blows by mind that people like Anders Breivik will get released.

You be that "honorable" guy and see how fast you get yourself in a legal pickle. It isn't worth your involvement if nobody is getting seriously injured. And consider this, that crazy lady was apparantly a lawyer. I'm a lawyer. You don't think we know how to spin up a good lawsuit/complaint with the police?

I'm a lawyer. All she has to say is I hit her and I'm catching an assault/battery charge, ESPECIALLY in nyc. Will it stick? It's anybody's guess. I'd rather not risk my livelihood over people I don't know. It's not about masculinity, it's about protecting myself and my own friends and family.

Yea, words are somehow worse than physical acts? I don't get that at all.

No there isn't. If I caught an assault charge, a real possibility when "defending" an attack from a woman, my license to engage in my profession would be in jeopardy. She wasn't going to seriously injure anybody and I don't know who she's attacking, therefore not worth my intervention.

Containment boards work well. Containment subs used to too.

There are many, many people who are just broken. Ride public transit once in a while and you'll see what I mean. Desperate, useless people are everywhere. If I was that pathetic I'd probably degrade myself just so some average looking chick might give me attention too. I like to think I'd have the nuts to just suck the barrel of a 12 gauge before that level of desperation, but then again if I'm in that dark of a place I probably wouldn't have the sack to finish it. Most people can't look at them…

Saturated fat in general. https://www.t-nation.com/diet-fat-loss/saturated-fat Granted I've never tested this, but generally if I run a keto diet my fat intake is obviously high and my saturated fat is through the roof. I feel great. I'm sure there's someone out there who had the bloodwork done.
