Watch "Not another cooking show" on youtube. Dude's got pretty easy recipies to follow along and get a foot into the kitchen. Generally speaking you show learn about cooking techniques rather than learning recipies by heart. Once you've learned how to fry/boil/sear/cut ingredients you can cook basically 90% of all recipies. At that point you only need to know what goes inside the dish and you'll be able to cook the dish without the instructions.
