It's likely you're touch deprived (like many of us are) so it's very difficult for you to cross these last few feet of distance between two human beings. So the real takeaway point here is - be well-read, well-rounded, well-educated so you can comment on just about any topic. Have an inquiring mind. Ignorance/disinterest are boring and a dead end.

girls are less threatened because they know that if you're in a relationship you won't try to make a move on them. I think it's actually more of this. I have a girlfriend and whenever I meet a new girl I make sure to make her aware that I have a girlfriend (by bringing it up casually), and it helps me tremendously in going past that mental barrier girls have towards men. I'm suddenly viewed as a human being rather than a dick on a stick.
