Q4 men who won't get married but still want childrenYou seem to have misunderstood me... The studies you're talking about cannot logically prove your conclusion, UNLESS they split out unhappy marriages separately. Also, I read your link... The source of that study (National Marriage Project) is pretty widely understood to be a heavily ideologically biased organization. NMP isn't performing science--they're pushing a pre-existing political/cultural agenda, and they're twisting the facts to do it. Don't take my word for it, though: https://familyin… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 26/05/16 11:02 PM
Q4 men who won't get married but still want childrenIn modern American society, divorce isn't nearly as big of a social stigma as you seem to think. It's just too common, these days. With the exception of a few minority reactionary religious/social contexts, most people look on divorcees with sympathy or indifference, rather than judgment. I have witnessed a couple of really god-awful messy divorces, among close friends & family, where one spouse desperately wanted to stay married... It wasn't fun, but it wasn't the end of the world, either. Most… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 26/05/16 10:53 PM
Q4 men who won't get married but still want childrenExcept for how children of married parents do better in every metric than kids of every other parental configuration. If all marriages were stable, happy, & emotionally healthy, you might have a point. But your conclusion doesn't logically follow from the evidence--unless those metrics you mentioned also compare "children living under shitty marriages" vs "children living under healthy marriages". (And I'm pretty sure they don't.) Staying together "for the children" is utter nonsense. Ask a fami… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 26/05/16 10:38 PM
Q4 men who won't get married but still want childrenI believe you are projecting your own personal values onto the rest of the world, without really justifying it. I can agree with you that the prospect of a messy, expensive divorce scares some people into staying married, or staying married longer than they otherwise would. (In fact, I know at least one person in that exact situation.) But I know a lot of married & divorced people, with & without kids... Almost nobody seems to think the way that you do. People in bad, unfulfilling marriages gene… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 26/05/16 10:19 PM
Q4 men who won't get married but still want childrenRegarding child support (in the US, at least), the parents' marital status (never married vs. separated vs. divorced) has zero legal relevance. US courts consider exactly three (3) factors in determining child support: 1) the child's best interests, and 2) the custodial/financial split, and 3) the parents' income. I can't imagine why a never-married, custodial spouse (man or woman) would be any more likely to ask for child support. If anything, I'd assume that divorced spouses might seek it more… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 26/05/16 10:00 PM
Q4 men who won't get married but still want childrenWhat country do you live in, that marriage allows one partner to "lock down" the other, preventing them from leaving? Every single US state has no-fault divorce. You don't need your partner's consent--you just file for divorce, and go to court. It's definitely easier & faster if your partner cooperates, but it's still plenty do-able. I may be misinterpreting your, but sounds like you might have some traditional/reactionary/conservative values, in relation to children & marriage? I don't believe … | /r/PurplePillDebate | 26/05/16 09:52 PM
