Gotcha! Trying to navigate this in my own marriage. Been together 8 years, married for 2. I am a dentist and my husband is an entrepreneur who as you must know, works a lot. 24/7 work is on his mind. We have two children and currently my husband pays for every expense as he makes much more than me. My income goes into my own account for my own spending. We are both not big spenders though. This isn’t something we made a plan for, just kinda how things have naturally settled and with the chaos of…

I’m really interested in your perspective— How do you and your entrepreneur husband handle finances when there are a ton of business expenses? Do you guys have a joint account?

Lol I’ve never had more youthful spark than when I was early-mid 20s working minimum wage as I pursued grad school! I miss it!! Now I’m mid 30s, SAHM, two kids at home (one even in daycare) and I’m EXHAUSTED. We have a cleaner and a chef yet the bags under my eyes have never bagged harder. Girl I am DRAINED.

The question is not how to not be insecure dating him, but rather how to not be insecure about who you are. Might I suggest some therapy because it is clear you have lower self esteem. You are living your life for external validation rather than internal validation.. You may logically think of yourself as beautiful, accomplished, intelligent. But you’re basing that view on what you think others think of you, rather than coming from within. Until you love your inner child, you’ll always wonder if…

That sounds like a very reasonable compromise and I hope he is amenable to that!

I quit my 6 figure job to be a stay at home gf at the time, but because I wanted to not because my husband forced me to. I had paid off my student loans and was much happier pursuing my own hobbies than doing what I was doing. These days I temp sometimes so I don’t feel like my degree was a total waste. When I was stay at home before kids we travelled Europe, which is something I could never do with my career. Now we’re married and as a stay at home mom, life revolves around my two kids which is…

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say, “Hey I love you so much and it’s very important to me/my culture/my religion/my family to be engaged if we are to live together. I’m so sorry that I did not make that clear when we moved in together. I cannot continue living with you if there are no plans for marriage. I don’t wish to break up and will move out at the end of the lease in __ months if the engagement doesn’t happen.” No blame, no manipulation, it’s just about what’s important to you. You’ve …

Who cares if it’s disappointing to your parents? Your marriage is between you two, and if a courthouse wedding would make him happy and comfortable to take that step, then you two should do that. But at 6 years he is definitely dragging his feet. You should be clear about what you want (which it sounds like you have) and move out until that proposal happens, if you’re willing to continue waiting. Bc what onus does he have to change the status quo?

When I was 26, I was single and had just moved to Austin after graduating grad school and having a sad break up with an ex. Focused on being the best, most attractive version of myself— someone I would want to date. For me, financially that meant I was putting my salary towards maxing retirement accounts, maxing savings, learning about investing, paying off debt, and living well. I made a list of my core values- what at the end of the day should I revolve my priorities around? My list was my fam…

Through work- I believe they worked on a project together though on adjacent teams at Morgan Stanley. She definitely pursued her career first before pursuing a partner and then regretted it in her late 30s when she felt she couldn’t find a man who wanted to date her age or someone more financially successful than them (or maybe she only wanted to date someone on her level). I’m really happy it worked out for her. He is a bit older, but also someone who always wanted a family but was too career-o…

I’m sorry to hear that. Don’t worry too much, my cousin had a similar amh and found her husband at 41, had her first at 42, and now is surprise pregnant with 2nd at 43. Somehow didn’t even need IVF! You’ll def have to work at it, but you have time to find a good man. Be your best self first, be who you’d want to date. In your 30s, if you are fit and slender then you have an advantage over many people.

I think maybe this is a symptom of a larger problem, do you feel insecure about your importance to him and unconsidered in general in your relationship with him? If not, then I do think you’re overreacting a bit, he clearly just wants to be a great father and provider and his engagement to you should show his commitment to you.

Yes we are definitely not struggling to pay important expenses. Life is by no means difficult for us. You’re right there’s a lot of rich people in Seattle. When I’m wearing my Amazon generic leggings and old free grad-school tshirt I definitely don’t feel like one of them. But those are choices and I may have scarcity trauma from childhood (immigrant family). At any rate in my mind we are “comfortable”. I will say we always fly first and that is definitely something that makes me feel wealthier …

This is tough considering location and circumstances! Our household income is 7 figures in a hcol city with 1 child. I’m a dentist turned SAHM. We’re comfortable but I don’t consider us rich or wealthy. I do like the occasional luxury good, but I’ll buy pre-owned because I don’t feel wealthy enough to buy new. Sometimes I’ll still buy something at dollar general to save a buck.

I used to want a mined diamond until I realized a quality lab diamond is 10000% the same and there was no reason to overpay for a rock that I could lose. The ice made in my freezer is the same as the ice made in nature. If it makes you feel better there are also tiers of lab diamond based on manufacturing and cut quality, and you could focus the search on a top tier stone. I went with a 7k lab diamond cut in Belgium for its unique light performance but you could find one with the same specs on p…

No comment on your fiance. If you want to get close to where you want to be in that amount of time, the only way is to fast. There is a subreddit for it.

So he had root canals and then they failed and then he had failed bone grafts and failed implants? (Root canals themselves do not cause health problems) If that’s the case then very understandable to have spacing. at this point his next step would be cemented bridges to close the gaps so that his bite is balanced/restored.

Yellow flag imo. Poor decision making for long term health (pull the tooth rather than save it to save some money in the short term. Sorry but that poster down below saying root canals have long term health implications— they are wrong and that opinion is on the level of anti-vax conspiracy theory if you research it). Poor prevention methods of oral hygiene to get him there in the first place. If it’s not front teeth and rather both sides towards back, that’s likely due to decay not a fight or a…

He does not sound like he’s leading properly if he is not being attuned to his pregnant wife’s health and stepping up to help as needed, whether it is to do it himself or hire a nanny. You sound absolutely exhausted. You can express your needs. I have a 10 month old and it is endless work. I am a SAHM and also have a nanny. Don’t feel bad. Momming is 24/7 on call when you have partners who are always working past the usual 8-5 schedule. Being pregnant is tough and now you’re pregnant on top of b…

If it makes you feel better I got extra fertile after my vaccine. My periods were a little off and I was pregnant 3 months after my first dose. Probably not actually related, but I have heard of many others who have gotten pregnant shortly after the vaccine.
