I saw that movie. I think it’s implied that there is a larger passage of time. I think the way isn’t happens is that he loses his job. Falls on hard times. He has to get out of his old apartment and find a cheaper one which takes more than a few days. He lives there long enough for him to turn it into a pig sty and makes friends with the bums on the street. Tbh I didn’t see any monkey branching, just an average superhero flick that feels like it belongs in 2004.
