Alimony length in MichiganI too do not know MI laws, but typically alimony like that would only happen after 10years of marriage….something to look into with a lawyer. Also assume you will have to pay child support, but that is based on custody and income…another thing to ask your lawyer. If she’s already threatening that, assume she’s looking into her options…consultations are usually free, better to be prepared than caught with your pants down… Good luck! | /r/Divorce_Men | 25/09/23 06:53 PM
So, I read this board, and see all these horror stories…. What would you all consider Best Practices? I can think of vasectomy and a Cohabitation Agreement? What else have you all considered doing, done, or will do?Man…some real PTSD in here, but some good advice sprinkled in. No one here knows all the details of where you are, so you need to know the laws, but before that, find a girl you can trust and have open conversations with. If you don’t have basics, and like others mentioned, if you can’t say upfront what your expectations are, you’re in for it if you do get married, cohabitate or have kids. Always take the high road with kids involved, they will respect you more…and the more dumb stuff they see, … | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/12/22 03:38 PM
I got served today.I served her and I still loved her, but I knew I was depressed because I was trying to live and accept who she had become…a narcissistic, closet depression raged person…taking all their anger out on me…it was ruining my life. We fought 24/7 and all my friends were staying away case none of them could stand her… At this point I’m still not 100%, but I’m doing amazing mentally…I spend quality time with my son and have been very happy at work - promoted twice in two years. Keep your head up and thi… | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/12/22 03:25 PM
Phone time Obligation for non custodial parentI had phone time for non-custodial parents baked into the custody agreement; However, she did not follow it - neglecting me the call; not allowing me to talk when we had an agreed upon a window of time to host the calls…she was completely disrespecting the process when it came to my calls, yet expecting me to give her time whenever she wanted. I sent my lawyer an email and ended the calls until she agreed to follow the custody agreement…she refuses, so we don’t have them anymore. She blames me, … | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/11/22 05:56 PM
ReminiscingAbsolutely!! And not just to her, to the family…I was very close with the family and the separation was sudden when I left. They think she’s perfect and would not hear me when I asked for help… there’s bitterness and frustration, but writing it out really helps….not sending it helps more hahaha!! Good luck! | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/10/22 03:48 PM
STBX Wife already deleting our pictures on her Social MediaDo not follow her or look for her…look at yourself and what your future will be…that life is past, done…stop fantasies of whatever is going through your head about what used to be…it’s done move on and keep your head up!! The more you look back the longer it lasts! Not trying to say ignore…LEARN!!! Figure out what was great, appreciate that, but know that was like an ex who taught you some things…GOOD AND BAD! Learn and move forward! Be strong! | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/10/22 03:46 AM

On the fence.100% agree get a lawyer and get out!!! First, get a therapist!! But make sure you want it and can stand behind it…if you don’t want it and have doubts, she will try to exploit those and make you feel guilty for leaving, when she just selfishly just wanted you around to take advantage of your kindness. You time with your kids will be more meaningful and rewarding without her anger and frustration. Mental sanity is a beautiful thing!! | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/10/22 01:20 PM
Now she wants to work on it, lol.My ex is so full of herself, she acts like I’m gonna check her out; miss or want her…she’s always shocked when I won’t even bay an eye at her. Move on! Find someone worthy! | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/10/22 01:45 PM
Basic adviceI agree and disagree with a lot here. I can’t say my advice is any better, but here goes: Put the kids first - everything that happens now, they will hear about. So rise above. Of course there will be a time and place you will have to take the gloves off, but always hold integrity! As soon as you start discussions, have a plan in mind as to how you will manage schedules; pick up and drop off; school, bills… if you’re not in a no fault state, get a lawyer asap! Did I say get a lawyer asap, cause … | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/10/22 01:19 PM
Should we consider divorce?Start with couples counseling! She sounds like she has trust issues and with the baby needs to not feel like you’re not looking at her the way you may have in the past. You both need to own some ish, so therapy can help! You need to decide what you want, you made a family, you need to fight for it. She needs to trust you, so you also need to stop giving her reasons not to…going through your phone shows a lack of trust. Who cares about Instagram, what are your priorities? A lot changes with kids,… | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/10/22 12:48 PM

“Tainted” by your exSounds like you need to get this divorce in motion. Then focus on you! You need to see a therapist and get your head right! You can drag the anchor of your ex and all her bullshit around. It will bring you down again and again and anyone who sees the good in you will only see your anger! You need to be ok with being done with her and then start acting like it; cut all communication with her; schedule the trial to end it; go do some things that make you happy and take your mind off this and keep … | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/09/22 03:48 PM
I am open to having another child...If you find this unicorn, capture at study it for the rest of us 😂 | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/09/22 01:05 PM
I am open to having another child...I disagree. My ex used to make more then me and i left her anyway. I make more than her now, but if money is the “glue” of a relationship, it’s already on a dangerous course. | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/09/22 01:04 PM
what happens next?Seriously! Step back and take stock of your life. Your 47, you’re not seriously going to give up everything you’ve worked for over the last 20 years? Others mentioned rebounds, you are in one…once the honeymoon wears off, you will realize what is actually happening and wish you had taken more time to think this through! Get some second opinions from those you TRUST! Family, friends…don’t throw your life away just cause you got laid! Good luck! | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/08/22 07:28 AM
Fellas, how long were you single til you got into a relationship again or started dating? I feel like I rushed it because I got into a relationship after being separated. And I feel like it’s affecting the relationship I’m in now cause I never got to healI’m 2 years separated, about to finalize the divorce. Been on a few dates, but always realizing that I wasn’t ready emotionally to be with someone with all the mess and chaos my ex was causing. I’m thinking I’m about there with the divorce being finalized, so keep doing self care and make sure you are happy and ready to be with someone before you go deep into an emotional relationship. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/08/22 02:28 PM
Does it get better?Always room for improvement!! 😎 so so true….it’s a journey!! Truly meaningful healing takes time! | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/05/22 08:26 PM
Does it get better?Spot on!! One thing I have done that hs really helped is a therapist. Sometimes I wonder if there is any point in talking to her, but then when I’ve go a few weeks I’m like shit, I need to call her. She puts things into perspective and asks hard questions, gives support and has pushed me to do all the things you mentioned. The first year or so can be brutal…but once i realized that this was an opportunity for a new beginning and I was getting out of a toxic relationship, I have thrived! | 2 | When to get a lawyerLawyer up! Mine said fair and amicable and then I found myself drafting a restraining order…so many things and emotions to sort through, the lawyer will help you see things in black and white… Be prepared for the cost…I’ve paid for a base model Corolla (to my lawyer) and still going… Bottom line, watch you back, your bank..take pictures of your house and all your assets asap Also, start protecting you: change passwords, secure legal documents (passport etc) there’s a lot you need to do, Lawyer w… | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/05/22 01:14 PM

Get yourself together, refresh your resume and get on with your life. Do you want your children growing up thinking that being taken advantage of is how it should be? | 2 | So much harder for me than herFor us, it was multiple events that led to serious fighting, mainly due to her being unreasonable and irrational. After multiple fights, we had both given fatal blows. We both love each other, but the damage was substantial and irreversible. Multiple counselors and other efforts to make it work all ended in disappointment and alienation from each other. Two that were one, slowly drifted apart (with some large shoves) this was a decision that one of us had to make. The issues along with the selfi… | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/10/20 05:53 PM |
