Shows like breaking bad and the Martian aren't really sci-fi though. They are realistic fiction. The Martian was disappointing though. The book was way better. But steam is a good thing though. The sciences and arts actually used to be conjoined half a century ago. In the renaissance, engineers like Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci were actually artists as well. They had a deeper understanding of reality and designing because of that. A modern day version of these people would be somebody like Santiago Calatrava. Making big ugly functional boxes is a bad thing, it drives people away from these fields. But then again renaissance art was actually art.
