Try talking to him about what he likes and doesn't like, not everyone's love language is always the same so it's best to just be straightforward and ask about it, try not to be judgemental because that can be disheartening to a lot of people. Start conversations that are interesting, find out what hobbies or interests you have in common, if you have an inability to immediately approach and get into a convo then something as simple as a hi would be great to boost yourself into a better place with her.
