That’s absurd. And that money is tax free to her

Yes you can. I did just this. Also - she can withdrawal from your 401k in cash without a penalty as part of the divorce. So you could negotiate that she takes some of that to get her share of the house.

Work out and eat healthy. That will help your mental state as much as the physical. Buy new clothes and you’re a 10.

I think with her assets in hand, you would not need to pay any alimony, just child support (depends on the state). Just get out of there. Good luck

When developing a new relationship, you'll start to reflect on your previous one and identify so many more red flags in your failed relationship, and feel how it is supposed to feel. If you dont get that breakthrough, keep looking.

Trump was so good social issues were more important than economic ones, like surviving. That’s what happens with super low unemployment that he achieved. People had time and money to get passionate about other things and forgot about what it took to get there. Trump didn’t create any of the social issues, they existed when he took office, but people were too busy hustling to care.

Not it my state. Also, everything changed after 2018 with the tax law changes. The payer is responsible for all taxes, previously alimony was deductible and the person who got the money would need to report it as income.

They should. The divorce attorneys I have seen are just not good with numbers and taxes. The tax law also changed in 2018. I think the high priced lawyers I worked with just didn’t give a shit, told me to hire an accountant to do the math and go from there. He wanted nothing to do with it and neither did my ex’s attorney. They were not cheap and both clueless.

Make sure everyone includes taxes that you owe. Any money she gets will be tax free to her, and you have to pay the taxes. All these calculations need to be done after taxes are paid. None of the attorneys I worked with were capable of doing that.

Yes. My counselor focused nearly entirely on me. My ex rarely spoke. Instead of focusing on her actions, I had to change my reaction. Instead of focusing on her lack of communication, I had to change. The look on the counselors face was priceless though, when my ex admitted she had been lying at every session and had been having an affair for months.

finances were the reasons we had to get a lawyer, and after thousands of dollars my ex admitted that was a mistake. The two of you need to agree on what your assets are worth - an attorney cant do that for you

I can find a source to prove anything. The boston symphony orchestra had increased participation from woman after implementing blind auditions. that is a fact. Further the other sources just attacked the original statistics in a study. Doesnt prove it as incorrect. Anyway, the blind auditions are going away so people can see skin color. That is a fact. Not to help women.

" Men have to, not because men are better, but it's how they serve and protect their offspring and the mother of offspring. It's a survival component of "love" Women need to be flexible and find the best possible man to procreate with, therefore biologically they are prone to jumping to the bigger better guy." Eh... in nature, one male could impregnate thousands of females. Biologically, its the men designed not to love.

The tax law change in 2018 is bullshit. I still support my ex and her kids, but pay taxes as a single filer. Cost me $10k this year.

https://www1.nyc.gov/site/hra/help/child-support-calculator.page Hire a better lawyer. The only scenario I can see if you're getting hosed by an attorney that doesnt understand the tax impact of alimonry/child support and how that changed in 2018. 5+ kids is approximately 35% pre-tax, which is rather typical across the country. Either that or you are including taxes in the your 65%. In which case that makes perfect sense.

What state are you in? Most startes don't allow alimony and child support from the same base salary... You cant double dip I've never heard of a single state with either that high
/r/Divorce_Men29/03/20 12:22 PM

There's no court in any state that will allow her to take 65% of your paycheck. Who ever makes the money, will always get more. Get that fixed.
/r/Divorce_Men29/03/20 01:15 AM

But she can ask for more later. The law (at least for me) is that the kids should have equal lifestyles at each home. This isn't alimony My wife asked for a divorce right after my income doubled. I got fucked.

Maybe look into an annuity. She can take the lump sum and convert that into monthly payments. It's like winning the lotto - upfront makes more sense but some people like monthly payments because that's how their mind and budget works.

This and it happens sooner than you think. Right now you look back and think about all the good times. Soon you’ll look back and only remember the bad times. I promise you, that if she wants a divorce, you probably weren’t happy either. “Happy wife happy life” - well, you didn’t have a happy life. The biggest issue right now is the uncertainty. Once you figure out where y’all live, and everything, you’ll begin to move on and see some positives.

Tax status matters. Not just who can claim the kid but the brackets are quite different. You pay taxes based on your marital status on one day of the year. I’d be fucked if my divorce went final in December instead of January. I’d go from like a 24% bracket to 35

It's like you took the words out of my mouth. I've come to accept that my soon to be ex-wife was never the person I thought she was. And looking back, I should have noticed some red flags. After our kids got to be a little older (our youngest is now 3), it's like she time traveled back to her 20s. Her priorities are no longer the family, but how she looks, social media posts, and is insanely secretive.
/r/Divorce_Men15/11/19 08:49 PM
1

I would expect that to be the case especially with kids. Maybe if there was a fight over the home, that could help. But financially it won't matter. And support only goes one way. from the higher earner to the lessor earner.

Mass is the same, and my understanding, is that you'll end up with the same result but it's a different way to get there. At least here, there is nothing to gain by going for a fault divorce, you just get your divorce done under a different section of law. I guess it could help with dividing resources, but at least here it seems pretty formulaic. I'm still going to pay child support - even if I catch her cheating. However, every state is different. So you really focus on PA examples.

I would argue that you split assets 50/50 - and she gets half of all passive income (from the combined total). She's getting half your assets, and half the passive income already. Why would you need to pay her anything from your share? The timing of when you quit could be tricky. It may look like you're trying to sandbag your earnings to reduce alimony. But it sounds like you have enough wealth for her to maintain her lifestyle without you writing checks each month.

I’m still married...for now... and everything is intentional. And if it wasn’t intentional, that’s even worse. It means I wasn’t thinking about her at all and just ignored her altogether. But when I ask for her to pick up the dry cleaning (so I can appropriately go to work), she was too busy that day (never mind the Starbucks cup in her car, which is next door to the dry cleaners)
