He is managing expectations, aka he is letting you know he does NOT want to marry you.

Is it a sensory thing? My son is 10 and loves anime, so I watch it with him, but I have about a 3 episode limit before I start feeling like I'm going to lose my mind. A lot of it, for me, has to do with the fact that there is so. much. yelling. I do, in general, detest anime - and for some other reasons - but I support him as much as I am able to within my personal tolerances because he loves it and wants to share something with me that he loves. That said, I wouldn't be romantically interested …

I also want to add that I completely understand him getting annoyed or frustrated when these issues of mine becomes too much. Honestly, I am horrified. My chaotic energy airs more on the side of misplacing my things (which I always end up finding), dropping things, not taking the best care of my electronics but if damaged I take responsibility, fumbling around with my keys at the front door, and getting confused due to overstimulation doing simple things like pumping gas or paying for things (ju…

the fact that he feels more so like he wants to marry you after telling you and upsetting you would be a red flag for me. Nothing else quite says "Now that I know I can tell you something hurtful and you will just take it, I'm more comfortable being with you because you don't challenge me or make me uncomfortable with my shitty views that even I feel guilty about." 100%

We have always had this issue where he would correct me when speaking, sometimes to clarify something other times for no reason other than it being “wrong”. He would also get annoyed with my clumsiness, and overall “chaotic” energy which I understood and am working on improving. So, in my mind these things just annoyed my bf. But a week ago I found out that these problems of mine bothered him so much to the point of losing respect for. I mean, if I were you I would lose respect for someone who i…

So your mother is what is considered to be an "unreliable narrator" which means what she says isn't accurate to reality and that you can't trust it. Even if she happens to say something 'true', you can't trust it coming from her because of how distorted she is as a person. Her model of the world is warped. I also think your mother is doing something called "projecting" which means all the things she accuses you of is actually not about you but her. For example, she accuses you of being a prostit…

I have stated from the beginning that I do not believe that Abuse, Interrupted is a good resource for people in this subreddit.

It is natural for people to follow a link and participate. That is the reason for .np links. There are very few subreddits I would feel comfortable being direct-linked by, and they are all abuse support subreddits.

This subreddit has a different mission. And, frankly, it never should have been direct-linked as it falls below the threshhold in your moderation policy: Cross linking to submissions from other subreddits with fewer than 30,000 members within the first 24 hours is prohibited. Cross linking to submissions from other subreddits must be done only by NP links or screenshots. This is done by replacing the "www" portion of the URL with "np" (e.g. www.reddit.com/r/MensRights becomes np.reddit.com/r/Men…

My issue is with MRA-related communities. My understanding was that this was discretely separate from men's rights. How have I defended feminism?

I am not anti-men's rights, nor am I pro-feminist.

you can't provide one single example of why /r/mensrights is "problematic" other than it does not align with YOUR personal ideology Getting brigaded, something I explicitly requested against, is enough of an example.

This leads to male victims of abuse converging on MRAs and MRA sympathizers. And Red Pill and incel and PUA and other types of support or personal development communities as well. And when someone says that MRAs are misogynists or hate groups or 'problematic' that invalidates the victims. A core tenet of Abuse, Interrupted is that you can be both a victim and a perpetrator of abuse. If you participate in a community (such as TRP) that actively teaches people to manipulate others for their own be…

What is an MRA viewpoint? Essentially whataboutism around feminism and feminists as we are seeing in responses in this thread. Honestly, I am rather surprised to see people assert here that MRA are not anti-feminist.

there are a large number of people who are anti mens rights in TwoX but the treatment that you are giving them are different hence why you are recieving the comments you are getting So, I am not aware of ever having been linked in Two X Chromosomes, and yesterday is the first time that I have outright had to deal with anyone who believes that affirming that men are victims of domestic violence is wrong and means I 'have an agenda'. After giving that person an opportunity to explain themselves an…

So I am attempting to prevent a very specific type of argumentative commenting style that I have seen in MRA-adjacent communities, and one that I personally find toxic and don't want to spend my time dealing with. When someone comments in the subreddit from an anti-men perspective, I shut that down as well. But I personally consider MRA communities to be toxic, which is why Abuse, Interrupted is not a good resource for this subreddit. I am taking note of your criticism in terms of whether the mo…

My goal is to support victims of abuse and people trying to stop the cycle of abuse. I discuss issues that affect men, including societal issues, without getting involved in feminism v. MRA.

Firstly, I didn't "demonize" the men's rights movement. I said it was problematic. Secondly, you didn't ask for me to provide examples, you outright stated that I couldn't. Thirdly, this exchange is precisely why I think Abuse, Interrupted is not a good resource for participants of this subreddit.

My goal is to support victims of abuse and people trying to stop the cycle of abuse. Getting in the middle of feminism v. MRA does not help me do that at all.
/r/MensRights18/01/19 04:10 PM

It is absolutely problematic. There was a crisis line specifically for male victims of abuse that is no longer active, which means I am down one less resource for men in abusive relationships. Everything you identify is absolutely a problem, there is no question that there are systemic inequalities for male victims of abuse in support networks. Again, I banned a person yesterday who asserted that domestic abuse was a gendered crime against women specifically, and I banned them for undermining ma…

Abuse, Interrupted directly addresses the issues that affect men without framing it in the MRA framework and issues that affect women without framing it in a feminist framework. I am also not trying to make my life more complicated by getting in the middle of this particular ideological slapfight.

Yes, so this conversation and type of comment is exactly what I am trying to avoid on Abuse, Interrupted. My goal is to make Abuse, Interrupted inclusive for victims of abuse, irrespective of gender, age, sexuality, etc.

Here is another example of my taking a female victim-centric resource - Lundy Bancroft, the author of "Why does he do that? Inside the minds of angry and controlling men" - and adapted it to be inclusive.

Abuse, Interrupted is not 'pro' feminist either. There's a venn diagram where AI overlaps with items from feminism and items related to men's rights. I am trying to avoid getting brigaded by aggressive commenters with an axe to grind. I literally banned a person yesterday for implying that men aren't victims of domestic abuse. But you have a disclaimer on your mens rights views. With a name drop. The reason I have this disclaimer is that I have, for years, attempted to find reliable sources for …

Theoretically, no, but practically - with reference to MRA - yes. What I have seen of the Men's Rights Movement and Paul Elam in particular is problematic. What absolutely frustrates me about this is that I actively look for resources for male victims of abuse, and what exists is primarily promulgated by problematic people. There are very few resources I feel comfortable recommeding outright because MRA-related subculture seems so toxic.

they are not required to pay remotely close to the same amount (and often nothing at all at all) in child support Every jurisdiction that I am aware of uses a calculation based on income and other discrete factors to determine child support. Is judicial discretion potentially an issue? Yes. But this is more likely a case where fathers who seek custody of their children (1) make more money than the mother in question and (2) enough money to maintain a child's necessities; not to mention (3) there…

No should ever be adopted without both parents having consented to the adoption and terminating their parental rights. A mother cannot, should not, interfere with a father's right to (1) know about his child, (2) have a relationship with his child, and (3) have appropriate custody of his child. (Unless the father is a danger to the mother and/or child, in which case law enforcement and the courts should be involved.) In the United States, a woman cannot legally, unilaterally give a child up for …

The issue is that once a child is born, the man in this scenario does not want to be responsible for, or support, the child. The scenario requires a child; I'm not talking about a fetus, a 'potential child', and neither is the scenario. The decisions involved occur while the offspring in question is a fetus, a 'potential child', but the scenario requires a born child for which the mother, or state, desires support. Edit: clarification
/r/MensRights26/08/15 07:43 PM

A man should have the same opportunity to abort his role in the pregnancy that a woman has. A child should have the support of both parents. What the child 'should' have outweighs what the biological father 'should' have. Not to mention the fact that birth control and abortion are not nearly as ubiquitous as your argument requires.
/r/MensRights26/08/15 07:38 PM

I never said it did.
/r/MensRights26/08/15 07:34 PM

I guess it depends on whether you identify with the man, woman, or child in the scenario.
/r/MensRights26/08/15 02:37 PM
1

Almost. What I am saying is that there is a choice to have the child before there is a child, but once there is a child, the only choices that exist for either biological parent are regarding the relationship they will have with that child. As we've been discussing, the choice to have the child before there is a child is far more limited than for the man than for the woman. I am personally of the opinion that a lot of the outrage regarding child support would be ameliorated if we didn't cultural…

I didn't say that there is no choice but to have the child, what I said was that the choice is irrelevant. The only 'fairness' that matters in this discussion is what is fair to the child. if the child's right are paramount the actual mother doesn't have any rights of choice There is no child - commonly determined by whether the fetus can live in the outside environment - until far into the pregnancy. She doesn't have a choice to abort once there is a child (barring instances where her life is i…

Not all drop-offs* are anonymous, though I take your point that they often are. I also did not say that attempts are made to track a father down for child support. What is important, and what a lot of people fail to understand, is that a father is equally entitled to have a relationship with, or raise, their child. Even if a child is in state custody.
/r/MensRights26/08/15 01:05 PM

And women. My mother went to jail for non-payment of child support.
/r/MensRights26/08/15 12:48 PM
2

Once a child goes into state care, every effort should be made (and is in my jurisdiction) to identify, locate, and contact the biological father. A biological father cannot be compelled to take the child.
/r/MensRights26/08/15 12:47 PM
-1

What does this have to do with the child's rights being paramount? If a woman aborts, there is no child.
/r/MensRights26/08/15 12:43 PM
-2

It does, and wishing doesn't make it not so. The whole point of the anger and argument is that there is a child the man in this scenario does not want, does not want to support, and does not want to be involved with.
/r/MensRights26/08/15 12:41 PM
-4

The entire scenario hinges on there being a child.
/r/MensRights26/08/15 05:48 AM

This is exactly the problem with how people are conceptualizing this situation. Instead of "men's rights versus women's rights", it is "child's rights". Does this calculation potentially benefit of the mother in these hypothetical scenarios? Yes. Is she the intended recipient of the benefits? Not directly. There are three people involved in the scenario - a man, a woman, and a child - and the child, of the three, has no power or choice at any stage. A child has two parents, and those parents are…

When guys tell me they struggle with talking to women, it’s usually since they’re not paying enough attention. YES. What men often don't understand about women is how much we communicate non-verbally.

Get out there and talk to people who don't intimidate you; maybe go flirt with an old lady. It takes the pressure off and gives you license to relax and have a little fun.

I think the point is to help someone get in the habit of being able to have a good time without overthinking everything. Maybe a way to get 'in the zone' mentally would be to listen to stand up comedy on your way to the location as a primer? You should be in a good mood, finding things funny, relaxed, and it may give you fodder for conversation. Just a thought.

I posted this above, but I think it bears repeating. People who wear glasses on a regular basis (1) forget to clean their glasses, and (2) often don't update their style. Nasty glasses /= sexy. If you do wear glasses, make sure they are CLEAN.
/r/seduction16/01/13 10:42 PM

The point is "don't look like a scrub". The casual business attire lends authority in presentation. As for the glasses, people who wear glasses (and I do) forget to clean them or update their style. Nothing is less sexy than nasty glasses. If you must, put them in the top drawer of your dishwasher and make sure that shit sparkles.

This is actually a thing and it is very hard to overcome that early training. What you should do is to start hanging around very masculine men. Not macho; masculine. I am a strong woman but, and particularly with kids, you have to vacate the space you want someone to be in. Start doing activities where you have to take initiative. Some people get emergency or rescue training and this REALLY helps with leadership, as well as exposes you to men who are strong in their masculinity. Maybe take a kra…
