Facts and statistics are not the same thing, but we sure as hell like to use them interchangeably. Some things are not quantifiable. Men can sleep around (and brag), women cannot (seen as a slut?). So tell me, what is the study that concluded this. And what quantified results were used to determine it? How was the test conducted to ensure that the researcher's bias wasn't present in the test? I don't believe every statistic I read. When it comes to things that can't be quantified, I am more incl…

Patriarchy will never end... because it's a vague, general and mysterious thing that makes individual men behave like a poorly correlated statistic. Besides, if patriarchy were ever declared 'finished', who would be the victim of society. THERE MUST BE A VICTIM! /extreme sarcasm

Men can sleep around (and brag), women cannot (seen as a slut?). Sorry, I don't know any women who don't express repulsion toward "notch on their belt" men. Anecdotal, I admit, but I know a lot of women and the statistics would not even be close. Men are more respected as leaders than women (and more numerous). I generally agree. This is changing with time, and it should. Men can be hairy or unkempt, women cannot. Anyone can be unkempt. I could do it, but if I were trying to attract someone it's…

“If you were a C student way back in the day, and you were a white male, you just kind of cruised into a good job. And now, you can't do that anymore,” Smith said. She said that this struggle to get ahead could be part of what is getting Millennial men interested in men’s rights activism. These young men are watching their female peers get ahead of them as their own economic power declines. Smith said that higher depression and suicide rates could be a reaction to that. Wow... what an ignorant s…

You make a valid point. Maybe I'm just sick of the recent flood of shows following this model... or maybe I'm actually getting old, becoming my parents and starting to see all television as trash.

It's not just women. Most men don't even treat each other well, because they've already been trained to accept themselves as being expendable. The ignorance of feminism is that it denies that gender inequality affects both genders. In fact, it claims that when it achieves it's goals, things will be better for both men and women. The sad truth is that today's form of feminism walks all over men in order to achieve their own separate (often political) agenda. It marginalizes men's problems, heath …

My first thought was, "when a man is raped, you don't hear about it at all". I didn't take it as a dual meaning, but only a comment on the inappropriateness of people and media focusing on female rape victims attire in order to rationalize it. In my view, Takei's comment attempts to expose problems of society with respect to female rape victims by marginalizing male rape victims. ...but this is common practice in western society, where we've made gender equality a war and not a philanthropic pur…

If I've learned anything about feminists, it's that there are all different types. I would say that most don't conspire against men. But I'm also inclined to believe that it's not a movement that desires equality. It's one that desires to remove cultural disadvantages for women, which is not the same. I've met feminists that are really actually egalitarians and others that have told me to my face that men are an inferior gender. Any time you focus on a single gender, it seems to attract many "ba…

The point of studies trying to show that "women work more than men" is to combat the idea that women are lazy. I think this is a reasonable goal; however the original article attempts to do it by throwing men under the bus and starting a gender war. Not cool. But it's culturally acceptable to demonize men. Nobody is going to take offense, right? Ends justify the means? :/

I feel that this is a generally well written article. My opinion is that male expression of sexuality is taboo for the same reason that male expressions of emotion are taboo. Men's needs don't matter, and if men make their needs known, there must be some problem with them. "Male sexuality should be approached from the concept of pleasure rather than accomplishment" Also, I found this comment way out of line. This is a blatant stereotype that is at best true of fraternity boys and does not repres…

What if the woman was the female version of Sloth from the Goonies. Part of feeling "violated" is that you don't get to pick who you get groped by. If you don't get to choose, then it's not actually very fun when it happens to you. I've had it happen to me. I didn't welcome the groping, yet there was really nothing I could do after it happened.

I think this thread is very healthy. I'm fortunate enough to have several women that I love, but I'll name my sister. She's a very selfless and perceptive person. She works hard and is extremely smart. She understands gender inequality from both sides of the fence... from little things like trying to get a drink at a bar to the epidemic "expendable male". I actually feel this way about most things on reddit. If I focus too much on politics, I also just end up a bitter person. Stick to your guns, but realize that there are also good people, good politicians and good women in the world. Always make sure those people know how much you appreciate them. At least that's what I try to do when "reality" gets me depressed. In the end, reality depends on your attitude and your outlook.

The people who are advising you to have sex are the very same people who would be on the side of the prosecution if you were ever in legal trouble because of this. Anyone who laughs at you for not wanting to have sex under these circumstances does not have your interests in mind and has no right to give you advice. When in doubt, go with the law. The law says relationships don't imply consent. The law says if she is intoxicated, she cannot give consent. There's nothing to think about here. If yo…

A few years back, I criticized a post on the atheism subreddit which was praising the establishment of the "First Church of Atheism". After getting downvoted to hell (pun intended), I (an atheist) decided it was time stop reading that subreddit. Most atheists are still looking for a support group to affirm their beliefs for them. It's definitely religion for most people. IMO the bottom line of atheism should be to trust yourself and make your own conclusions. Don't rely on other people to tell y…

Exactly right.. but in the US, about 60% of people in prison have committed non-violent offenses. These people go into prison to become rehabilitated and themselves are subjected to violence and rape... and somehow they're supposed to come out better adjusted to live in society!? There are many reasons why this problem isn't fixed. I've always felt one of them is that in the US, males are treated as expendable.. and especially ones that have committed crimes. If you're raped in prison, people sa…

Just to clarify, your stance is that the system should actively screw over all white men because they are genetically superior to everyone else? Am I really understanding you correctly?
/r/MensRights19/08/12 07:21 PM
2

Class, no. There is no basis in reality. Nothing physical or evolutionary distinguishes people of different classes. Otherwise, I simply don't believe that people of different genders or races can't accomplish the same things. If, as a society, we believed that nature was actually more important than nurture, then our legal system would reflect that. But it doesn't.
/r/MensRights19/08/12 07:10 PM

No. Gender, race and class are meaningless constructions of a categorical society. My perspective is that if I'm a human and you're a human, then we should grant each other mutual respect. But I'm supposed to believe that because I was born with male genitalia that I'm now a 2nd class member of society. If my statement was meaningless, then yours is even moreso. I speak from personal experience that generalizations about my gender entitle me (personally!) to fewer rights than other people. If a …

Again you're attempting to make a point by using very vague and general terms. As a man, what exactly am I dominating? Which "certain areas" need to be stripped from me so that I'm not oppressing women? I really want to know. Have you ever been discriminated against because of your gender? I've certainly been passed over for a much less qualified woman and I still can't figure out how I as a single person am a "majority".
/r/MensRights19/08/12 01:53 PM

How about you stop arguing semantics on a point that doesn't even matter? You don't have to say "each and every" whenever you wan't to produce a stereotype. If you wan't something to be general, you have to use a modifier which indicates that you are not universally applying your statement. TLDR "Jews are greedy" -- stereotype "Most Jews are greedy" -- generalization I know the difference, but I don't think you do.

Wrong asshole. If the statement was "Most men are stronger and more successful", that's a generalization, genius. Get lost until you have something legitimate to argue.

Men are stronger, and possibly more successful Bahhahaha. Way to stereotype all men. I know plenty of women that are stronger and more successful than me. I don't buy it. The way to achieve equality is simple. START TREATING PEOPLE EQUALLY. The "imbalance" is in no way natural. It is/was a socially deliberate construction. What can you possibly "take" from me to make things more balanced. When my wife divorces me, she automatically gets to take the kids? Will that put me in my place? Will you ta…

I'm with you. I firmly believe in no discrimination based on gender, race or creed.. yet somehow our society has taken the "gender" part to mean no discrimination based on gender -- only if you're a woman.

I agree that it might have had to happen that way, but I think it's time for feminism to end and equal rights movements to begin. Feminism is not about equal rights, it's about grabbing as much social ground as possible for the female gender. At its best, the issues which feminists fought over were the same as those women who simply wanted equal rights. The unfortunate aspect is that this gave female supremacists lingering credibility while they now exist mostly to trample over men's equal right…

“To prove Huggies diapers and wipes can handle anything, we put them to the toughest test imaginable: Mexicans, alone with their babies, in one house, for five days, while we gave white people some well deserved time off." Granted, it doesn't really make sense the way I've written it, but I think if you can replace 'men' with any other demographic and it sounds offensive, then you're probably being a bigot.

Feminism has always been first and foremost for gender equality. I have nothing else to say to you. I used to agree with you, and I used to say that I was a feminist but I no longer believe that to be the case... if for no other reason than the title alone. I am pro-women's rights and gender equality. I believe that there are areas of Western society where women are not treated fairly, but I also believe this to be the case for men. On more than one occasion I have met self-proclaimed feminists …

You don't think any female students fantasize about older male teachers? Teachers shouldn't be providing their underage students with alcohol. Imagine the public outrage if a male teacher got 5 female students drunk and had sex with them! It's terrible and wrong on both sides of the gender fence. This is another double standard that clearly falls short of equality.
