I'm currently at a tech startup and the new thing to do in the industry is get your girlfriend or wife to apply at the same company or a competitor. She'll be hired on regardless of qualifications and will skyrocket through the ranks because they're so desperate for women at all levels of the company. Good point, but IQ variation is not the only reason. The primary cause of homelessness is mental health issues. Women are seen as a more vulnerable population so they received more support for these type of problems. Aside from that, societal values probably play a big role. I just saw a thread on 2x where a woman was complaining about her female boss telling her not to keep tampons on her desk. The top comment was complaining about men controlling her bodily functions. This is exactly why women do it. If you get caught cheating on your SO. You can either own up to it and lose respect and probably your relationship or you can accuse the other person of rape and face no consequences. I forget the term, but there's a name for this. Groups, like governments or departments become deliberately ineffective so that they remain relevant. It's like construction crews working on a road. They could use good materials and solve the problem. But then they wouldn't be needed. So instead, they fill the potholes with shitty patches that will break down within a year and they get paid to "fix" it again.

Same story in engineering. It's not that women are worse engineers or anything. But when you hire any woman who applies but only the top 5% of men, then the women working there are going to be much less qualified, on average and they're going to make more mistakes. That's going to make it look like women aren't cut out for the job but the reality is not many women want to do it while companies are pushing for equality of outcomes.

Its definitely pushed more on girls, like in OP's post where it's an all girls trip. But overall, yeah, it helps kids learn by making things fun and I have no problem with that. Yeah, I think it's a combination of the two. There's a ton of pressure on companies to hire more women but there's not many applying. So they lower the bar dramatically and still don't hire many. You end up with a small number of women and many of them aren't as qualified so people think women just aren't as good at the jobs.

I think it's been a shift. In the past, it does seem like women were treated unfairly and not given the benefit of the doubt. But in my 10 year career, that's switched. Women get huge advantages when it comes to tech roles. The problem is that when your company wants a 50-50 ratio and only 3% of applicants are women, you're almost forced to hire all women who apply. But then the average woman is significantly less qualified and it only perpetuates stereotypes that women aren't as good.

She hasn't really caused any problems because anyone who talks to her knows enough not to ask her for anything. I don't think she's written any code in the 3 years she's been at the company. But they'll never fire her because she's the only woman in the department. She only works about 20 hours a week and spends that time making personal calls or on social media. Luckily, I was never one of her victims, but from what I'd heard, most weren't capable of defending themselves after being hit. Being blindsided by a glass bottle as hard as she could hit was almost guaranteed to knock you out or at least give a concussion. Her MO was to find the biggest guy in the room, try to smash a bottle on his head from behind, and then run off giggling. It doesn't help that kids are pretty impressionable and often say things to make people happy. What worried me most is this woman ruthlessly interrogating those poor kids. I was on one of these once with my friend and his girlfriend. Despite there being empty seats in the women only car, she was standing in the regular one so she could talk to us. She then started screaming at a man sitting down and telling him how rude it was that he didn't offer to give up his seat for a woman. In the track/runner example from your own source, equality of outcome would be everyone tying for first place, including those who aren't the best runners and those who just didn't feel like trying. I agree with you. It's like saying that fewer women in STEM is discrimination. If you you just look at the numbers with no background, it might look that way. But you have to consider that in general, girls don't choose to enter those fields. Similarly, less women seem to be committing prisonable offenses.
