No, it's just that I've only ever seen people crazy-screaming at eachother from both sides, and both claim they're rightfully the good ones. Pretty much sums it up. IANAL But I believe legally they do have the right to detain if they are properly trained but many stores have policies of non engagement to avoid lawsuits. Also loss prevention can act as a deterrent or can gather photo evidence of the shoplifter so they can deny them entry to the store in the future.
