If you want to get in to this make sure you have the ability to defend yourself and your stuff. Otherwise you've just created a piggy bank for someone else. I've always had a "split bag" which could realistically keep me warm, fed and relatively sheltered for a few days at least. It's more for if friends call last minute to go camping or up a hill but it serves other purposes. I feel safer knowing it's there.
