No his commitment was spontaneous, which was what was so exciting. I’m actually feeling a lot better today. But thank you for the advice, I’ll be sure to look back on it if I’m feeling overwhelmed again.

Thanks so much! I appreciate the advice. Things got better as the day went on. I’m just feeling really overwhelmed right now, it will pass.

I think you’re definitely right. I have been lacking in self care to be sure.

I appreciate your perspective on your dad. Do you think your mom had any conversations with him about how much he was working?

Oh yes I’ve learned that lesson well from my mom. I always just ask if I can feel something building and he usually says yes.

I don’t mean to take an attitude, your advice is incredibly frustrating. I don’t see how saying nothing in this case is any different from being a doormat. It also does not address children at all which makes me think you don’t have any. I think you’re projecting, honestly. You’re clearly identifying with my husband, and have said so many times. But I need help in these unusual circumstances, it’s temporary. Once things go back to normal I have my support systems back etc. For now I can’t even s…

Like I said, I don’t usually mind. I have an excellent support system when we aren’t sheltering in place. He did say he’d change but I didn’t really believe him. He has taken time off in the past, never at my request. Is this advice? Because that’s what I’m asking for is advice.

Thank you this is great advice. I definitely wasn’t planning on criticizing him. Wow thanks so much this is great, making me see the light at the end of the tunnel.

He’s already partner. He’s in a limited liability partnership with three other people. He’s a defence lawyer and he makes his own hours/is his own boss/files taxes as self employed. There is zero percent chance of lay-off. We aren’t hurting for money, he just landed a government contract looking into wrongful convictions. That’s bringing in north of 10 grand per month. I also worked for him as his assistant before I had the baby, so I have a great grasp of the job and the hours required. I knew …

Best of luck on your adventure, and I hope that it’s as successful as I think it will be. Laura Doyle’s book the empowered wife (or possibly kill all the marriage counsellers I can’t remember) does talk about remarriage a bit I believe, it may be worth checking it out. Stay strong momma! The life you want is so close 🥰. Be sure to post an update!

I’m going to disagree and say you should tell him that you would like to rekindle your relationship. I read him asking if there was any other reason for your apology letter as a hopeful message on his part. For example, if I were on the receiving end of messages from an ex acknowledging some missed opportunities and apologizing I would only ask why ELSE he wrote it if I was interested in rekindling the relationship. If not, I would accept and thank him for his apology and continue living my life…

Omg agreed! The last relationship I was in before I was married was to a guy who sounded a lot like OP’s guy. It didn’t take long for the charm to wear off and I hightailed it out of there. I am now married to an amazing guy who loves nothing more than to dote on me. He’s 8 years older, incredibly ambitious, and just really checks all the boxes. It can happen for you, too OP!

I want to take doing 3 things I love every day seriously. I have been running myself ragged and by the end of the day I know what the problem is, I didn’t take care of myself!

It literally teaches you how to be a good wife/long term partner, step by step. It’s especially beneficial for anyone whose mom was a really bad wife, like me. I can’t really remember if she says anything specifically about your situation. But she does go into a lot of detail about what you can bring to a relationship, it doesn’t have to necessarily be sexual. So much of our lives are spent out of bed, you have the opportunity to make that time something that brings value to you, and to your man…

What is with the hate for surrendered wife? I think it’s an excellent book, and every change I’ve made in my relationship because of that book has worked.

I have found that you have to really want to get over someone to get over someone, or at least act like it. I hear it’s a lot like overcoming an addiction. Whenever you find you’re having a moment of weakness dreaming about what could’ve been try saying out loud, “yes that’s all well and good, but I want to move on with my life. Thanks for the memories!” I have done this with one alpha who was stringing me along when I was younger and it worked shockingly well. It felt like I was lying to myself…

I’m feeling this so much at work at my new job right now. Truly a miserable time, all of the girls are gossiping about me to anyone who will listen. I just keep smiling and treating my customers as sweet as American pie. Their words about me are more powerful than the jealous ones of the ladies I work with.

Sarah is 32, she is married and has a year old son. Thank you for your advice. It's excellent. Unfortunately I was too wound up last night to take it! It ended well, we've decided to wait a year so I can pay off my student loans and purchase a house.

Actually I am pretty sure that he didn't. He was at this lunch with us and didn't do any agreeing with her. He was way more supportive.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I am not sure how to make that happen though. Sarah was constantly talking about how much energy it takes and how tired she is. I was thinking to myself that I am never going to have more energy than right now.

A different interest of mine is property management; which you definitely don't need a degree for. I was raised learning the merits of investing in income property. What would you say if I said I want to withdraw from school and pursue property management full time? Just changing my career focus for now.

I think it is the responsibility of the wife to assert her own boundaries (for example, I can't work while the children are young) and express her wants and desires without expectation (no matter how exorbitant). I think it is the man's responsibility to take care of and protect the wife. He can ONLY do this when he knows the way, so the wife's job is to shine a light on the path. As Laura Doyle says, the wife's wants are the north star in the relationship, every man out there wants to make his …

You're right about that, having a plan. My tenative plan before developing baby rabies was to work to get an internship next summer and then hopefully at the end of the term secure full time employment. Then I could get pregnant during the middle of my last year, start working for a bit until I give birth, and then take the 52 weeks partial paid maternity leave and perhaps never return. Maybe I will end up doing this. It would give me a degree, partial income, and husband respect(?). It still se…

I will check out the sub, thank you so much for your suggestion! I am in a bit of a rush fertility-wise, all of the women in my family were through menopause at 40. Unfortunately, in the university I am in you have to wait a full year before changing your major, and changing at this point will undoubtedly add even more time to my sentence.

Chemical engineering may not be contradictory to motherhood, I just don't like it anymore. I chose it because it was the highest earning major I could stand entering so I could reasonably provide for myself without "needing a man". I want to homeschool our children and be at home with them until they leave the nest. This isn't to say I wouldnt have other projects going. I have my own cleaning business while in university now, I would like to grow that business and take on more clients as a SAHM.…

I actually run my own cleaning business while in university. The pay is lucrative here for that kind of service. I would like to grow it, I can do that while being (mostly) SAHM.

We already knew when we married that I wanted to be a SAHM. He has always wanted a large family (has always imagined that meant 4, in truth we will see how we feel at 4 and keep going or stop). Homeschooling has been thrown in the ring now and is something we're interested in. DH was raised by his SAHM and has always wanted that in the cards for me. He knows the value of having someone at home to put out the housefires and take care of him and the kids while he grows his business. DH also wants …
