The thing is, sometimes the “wrong types” don’t present themselves that way out of the gate.

In all honesty, all of the relationships I’ve had were stumbled upon and not sought. I ran into someone I knew from highschool during an actual hurricane and it lead to us dating. It’s hard to explain; but I feel it’s like when you put effort into making a half-court shot in basketball and you miss, yet when you don’t even try it it goes in on your first attempt.

The test isn’t a run of the mill APFT, which is just 2 minutes of push-ups/sit-ups and a 2 mile run. This one is a lot more involved and it’s no surprise failing rates are high for now. Soldiers will have to adapt now, and they will.

I just remember when I was in grade school (early 2000s), our teachers would always pick girls for things because they’d sit quietly. Meanwhile, a boy would desperately try to raise his hand to get picked but wouldn’t—and so made like the girls and sat there quietly only to not be picked in the end. We all recognized it back then.

I’ve also been told by girls I date that I’m “too much dad material, not enough dating material” and subsequently get shot down. If someone’s not in the mood to be committed I completely understand—but am I basically being used?

Yeah there’s this weird thing where it’s expected now more than ever. I did the same for a date—she even moved the location closer to her while I was en route to the midway one we agreed on because she “didn’t want to be stuck in traffic.”

I wish I could predict the future from just one sentence /s. Meeting halfway isn’t awful in the slightest.

I’m curious how we pulled off using Jupiter’s gravity to slingshot us back to Earth at the right time

Because it’s completely visible and common on dating profiles, to the point where it’s memed.

You really don’t have to swipe through too many profiles to see what I described, especially in a university setting. I said nothing about matching with them or “bagging” them; just the fact they’re there. Throwing personal jabs here doesn’t really help either, especially when it’s completely off-point.

It’s extremely common to see girls my age (23) try to pass off watching the same Netflix show, tacos, margs, “sarcasm”, and White Claw as personality traits on dating apps.

And The Office, tacos, margs.

When I was ignorant I was always reaching out to people and trying to be liked. I was that guy who’d keep texting in the hopes that maybe they’d change how they felt about me after being there awhile. After a petty rough dating experience I decided to slam the breaks on all of that; and though I’m barely interacted with by anyone I know, at least I’ve shifted that focus to my work and my future plans. It can be kinda isolating at times, but at least I’m free from people who weren’t at all into m…
