So kind of a weird story. Was with another abusive guy I had a wedding photo business with for 12 years. I shot this wedding in 2015 with him and my now husband was best man/ brother of the groom. I def noticed him but was keeping it completely professional bc I was there to work and also still with someone so not looking at him like that. He was super nice and helpful and got me water when it was hot and offered to carry my bag (which I declined bc I knew abusive ex would get mad). I noticed he…

There’s hope! I met my husband when I was 33 and he was 39 and we both had never been married/ no kids and both wanted both things. He’s an amazing catch and someone I would have over looked in my 20s bc I had unhealed childhood trauma at the time and he would have been far too stable for me hahaha. We just welcomed our first child and he has a great career that’s allowing me to be a SAHM for now.

Agree! Just finished Ina May’s guide to natural child birth and I found it overwhelmingly positive and empowering. The entire first section is dedicated to stories of women’s first hand accounts of giving birth and it is realistic yet mostly positive.

An instant pot! We got one for our wedding and I use it at least weekly and for so many things for food prep. It’s great for making food that would take all day in a slow cooker or just simple things like batches of hard boiled eggs. 10/10 would say it’s my most used registry item. Another good one I got was a full length mirror that has tons of storage for all my jewelry and a lock.

So I found FDS about 6 months after I met my HVM, but I was already employing the principles bc I was so sick of men’s shit after a 12 year abusive (physically, mentally, financially) relationshit with a LVM Peter Pan POS who used me up for every drop he could. I took about a year off after leaving him to just keep working on myself, entered the dating scene and very quickly came up with some high standards to weed time wasters out. In fact just before I met my now husband I was 33, and had pret…

I also remember having to go to his house to apologize, and my mom explaining it was just to keep the peace but that I didn’t have to mean it and she appreciated me defending her honor.

Might as well have been! Shortly after I left I read a book about the Jonestown Massacre and I couldn’t believe the parallels in attitude and tactics used to manipulate victims. His name wasn’t Jim but side note, what is with that being the name of so many psychos? hahaha. He was obsessed with Jim Morrison though and used to tell me he thought he was him in a past life. 🙄

Ouch. They always tell on themselves eventually don’t they? My terrible ex told me I “owed him one” that he attended my grandmother’s funeral… on the way to her funeral…. The audacity to expect credit before he had even done what most would just consider the right thing to do. We had been together for over a decade at this point 🤦🏻‍♀️🤡 The sociopath also had this gem of a line when I was crying that she was dying: “why are you so upset? Grandmom’s get old and die, that’s just what they do.”

Yup! I tried for 12 years to change a 50/50- I did all the food shopping and he paid for 50% to the cent yet he probably more like 70-80% of it especially anything expensive like mixed nuts. If we went out for dinner we had to order the same amount of food and split the bill evenly- if I wanted an extra drink or anything he would freak out even if I offered to pay for it. Tit for tat doesn’t even describe it. We had a running document called “who owes what” for the whole relationship and every c…

Dear lord I mistakenly used the word scrote in the “murderedbywords” subreddit bc it was early in the morning and I thought I was posting here and I got attacked by some many people for being an FDSer. My favorite was the one who told me good luck finding a man talking like that, to which I promptly showed my HVM husband who I got by using the vetting techniques and he said “the guy you were referencing in your comment was a scrote and that guy probably is too” hahahaha. I also found it interest…

This advice is GOLD. I have a huge problem with this in general but as I’m learning to navigate my own boundaries I find I am naturally more aware and respectful of others. Right down to little things like when I ask my husband if he wants more food. Previously I would be like “are you sure? I could make this- you could have that…” now I think to myself he’s an adult, he said no thanks take him at his word. A silly little catch phrase I have found really helpful when I’m about to overstep and of…

I make it my mission to at least try to help others. I still can’t believe it either. I have a wonderful husband now but I left 3 years ago and still have massive panic attacks if something covers my face too much (the pandemic and mask wearing was SUPER fun!) and the biggest thing I want people to know is that chronic stress causes PTSD and it’s literally BRAIN DAMAGE! I am just starting to get my focus and better short term memory back. I think when I was in it I totally minimized the behavior…

Oof- the “playfully” pushing physical boundaries is one of the many tactics my abusive ex used to groom me into accepting more abuse and doubting myself. This, along with your story, are MAJOR red flags. If you feel up to it, please show her that a very concerned internet stranger had it start with exactly this type of behavior and it escalated to being choked and almost suffocated with a pillow.

One thing that’s free that I don’t think anyone has mentioned is having good posture. Carrying yourself with ease and confidence does wonders to project that you are high value and take yourself seriously. My now husband actually complimented my posture on our first date!

When an abusive person knows what really bothers you they will use that information against you. For example- I had the whole “you’re not pleasuring me” talk with an abusive POS ex. He first gas lit the shit out of me about how since it was so much harder to make me cum that I only “deserved” to cum every few times we had sex. Then since he knew connecting sexually was important to me (since it was important enough that I “CoMmUniCaTeD” about it) he then used that as a carrot to dangle, or as a …

I did this after over a decade with an abusive POS and it is HEAVEN!! Decorate how you want, indulge in tons more self care and if you ever feel lonely do something special for yourself! My ex tried to pull this shit too. Luckily I was able to see through the manipulation and even though I was scared I called his Mom and a sister who lived nearby to drop by and check on him and told him next time it would be the police doing a wellness check. He miraculously recovered and never pulled that stunt again. 🤡

This was sadly all too familiar. On the semi bright side I secretly sought counseling (he would have never approved it) after the worst of one of these incidents where I ended up scratching my ex’s face and trying to defend myself with a toilet tank lid bc he had me convinced I was the crazy one. I went in crying about how out of contfrol and abusive I was bc I was so mentally fucked. Omg this thread is so cathartic to read. It’s bringing up old bad memories but is so liberating to hear and so validating on one of the million reasons I left. My scrote lvm ex started off buying them for me and getting me into them when I was younger (I had never even had one before him!) then later when we lived together he got jealous of them and threw them all out, and shamed me for using them!!! Talk about a head fuck!!

After lots of self work and therapy etc and many amazing women I am lucky to call friends I am beyond ok! Thriving in a very healthy relationship and strong enough to know I’d be fine on my own. That sounds all to familiar. It’s amazing the lies abusive scrotes will feed you. Mine would always tell me not to go crying to my friends or mom because they weren’t special like us and couldn’t possibly understand our kind of love. 🤦🏻‍♀️

100 % this. I was caught in hell on earth for over a decade thinking the drama equated to passion. I’m in a super peaceful relationship now it took me months and counseling to let it sink in my trauma brain that peaceful does not mean boring. I went from having so many health and stress issues to thriving and I will never go back and always advocate for other women to get the same! True Love won’t leave you hurt stressed and crying on the regular.

Another under rated one... make it pretty! Eating is a sensory experience so if your food is a brown pile of mush it’s going to be hard to eat leftovers vs a plate with a few colorful veggies thrown in. When it’s pretty even the most simple stuff tastes better.

Great advice above! Starting simple is huge. Make knock-offs of food you already love from eating out or recipes you’ve had from other people and liked. For example: I love chik fil a so I google a lot of chic fil a knock off recipes, buy some frozen waffle fries and love it. I also always love Italian comfort food from growing up so tend to borrow a lot of seasoning and inspiration from there. Lastly try to make it fun! I may be a bit loony but I swear when I love making a food it tastes even b…

I am so sorry to hear about your experience. It’s crazy how clear it is looking back isn’t it? It took me a DECADE to process that I had been grayped by a friend of a guy I was dating. I walked around for years with the guilt that I had been seeing this great guy- got too drunk and cheated with his friend and that I wasn’t good enough for any relationship bc I was too much of a slut. THIS so much. My LVM (and abusive!) ex was constantly using this term years ago. We photographed weddings together and when the groom was sweet and respectful to the bride he would spend the entire car ride home talking about what a whipped simp he was or all sorts of other nasty things. Unpopular opinion here. I was brought together with my fiancé on Bumble... we had met twice in real life before though (story in my comment history if you care to dig). This was before I had even heard of FDS. However, after we matched and started conversing I was unknowingly following a lot of the strategies. I came here to post exactly this sentiment. Do not attach to outcomes, live in the now and enjoy it for what it is. Attaching to outcomes, especially involving the behavior of another human is futile and downright dangerous to your mindset. We can’t control anything, least of all the actions of others. Also OP I know this was a rant, but women usually have a logical reason for their actions. You might not understand or like them but they do. Men are just as illogical and fickle at times. It’s ca…

I still don’t know how she could be so meek around her husband. I know he was physically abusive to son and he was to me, so one can only guess how that behavior got ingrained. The most bizarre part is I think she was subtly trying to warn me for years before I left and a few months before I decided to leave for good, I found a letter she had written to herself about having to leave and deserving better in a book I was thumbing through on their bookshelf!

If you ever want to chat about healthy food tips I had gone from 240 to 165. I’m back up about 20 lbs and love to talk with others on the journey to stay motivated! <3 you got this!

I would say DUMP HIS ASS as someone who wasted 12 years with a loser who just did the obligatory things when it came down to that or fully lose his pickmeisha slave/business partner. Don’t worry about taking time to work on yourself while still in the security of the relationship. I spent the last year of my relationshit hitting the gym, sav…
