I think the reason why people downvote you is that solely from the text, we can't accurately judge the situation. You were there, by observing them you probably got a pretty good idea of the dynamic between them (or the lack thereof) by noticing body language, how they talk to each other, how the guy presented himself, et cetera. But that's hard to convey in a text, which is the reason why it seems you are over-analyzing or jumping to quick conclusions.

With all due respect, this is a pretty stupid post. I know the process of an personal insecurity unconsciously being transformed into a seemingly rational, valid argument, and this is exactly that. Stop worrying about your x, your y or your z - start worrying about your a instead. That sounds like something straight out of a commercial. You can't be serious here. Talking for myself, I can't afford braces, so I am pretty much fucked. If that's not another way of saying, "Well I'm fucked, no point…
