We have periods so pussy passes are reparations. /s

I guess I would understand if the girl in OP's post was being gross and saying "Wow yeah our cycles are synced, we're both bleeding from our vag," because that's outwardly gross. But the only words period-related she used were 'menstruating' and 'cycle,' which are not graphic or inherently gross. I can't control what image your brain cooks up when it hears those words, but I don't think they have any indecent connotations associated with them, as opposed to 'blood,' or 'vagina,' or even 'period'…

The word menstruating is not vulgar. It's about as tame as it gets as far as referring to periods. Is there another word you would prefer?

What she said wasn't even vulgar, tho. She just referenced her period. Didn't even bring up blood or vaginas.

I still think he's a dick the way he approached it. Doesn't mean I think he should be vilified, but the term "fatty" was definitely said in malice.

I mean I believe both femininity and masculinity can be toxic, and both men and women are privileged in different aspects. I don't think this guy's comment was off the rails. And I don't think it was sexist, either.

As an abuse victim, this advice is pretty solid. It's obviously not a logical reaction, and we know it isn't, but it's become like a reflex. It's good to apologize for causing any unintentional harm, but that's it. Don't be drawn into this weird hyper-victim complex that has formed. I'd honestly encourage you to tell her to seek help for scars the abuse left. You don't have the "mind of a rapist" or whatever, you seem like a nice person for trying to patch things up in a constructive way.

But... the sex was clearly consensual. The whole point of the article was that she wasn't raped.

I believe there's a sort of balance there. A lot of aspects of "typical" masculinity, like the idea that men shouldn't express emotion, are pretty toxic ideas, and definitely should stop being perpetuated. But there's also the "social justice" form of masculinity, toxic masculinity, that is pretty much only toxic to these people who are masculine. Like when they say things like how all men are dangerous. When that's drilled into the head of a child, it takes a toll on them, believing that they w…

I think all rape accusations should follow due process no matter what gender the victim or accused is. I'm also a chick. Generalizing all women is just as bad as generalizing all men.

I don't think this is really an issue, tbh. He was found guilty, there is no room for reasonable doubt. Six months is nothing, and it's sick he got off so easy.

Of course! She's always happy to offer up her experiences as a sex therapist. She works in a primarily LBGT area, so she gets lots of different people coming in. If I did that, where should I post? I wouldn't really wanna clog up the AMA subreddit with it.

I'm aware :) It's just hard to convey that through silhouettes. If the support keeps up I'll definitely keep making posters that are better represented than this one.

My school has pictures of Syrian refugees dismembered by bombs as UNICEF posters, I think mine will be alright.

Yeah. I did the sharpie before I realized my mistake. I made sure to clarify when I presented it.

Like previous comments, it's not uncommon for men who call the police for being abused to get arrested themselves for this, even without defending themselves. The social stigma around domestic abuse being only perpetrated by men is probably the main reason for it.

The website just redirects to their current website for me, which is why I put it. It's much easier to remember. I can assure you the photo was taken yesterday.

Study is linked in comments somewhere. What goes on with me and my boyfriend should not affect anything the poster means. I'm not sure how that's actually relevant.

I used stockphotos to do the silhouettes, and I couldn't really find anything where the woman was throwing a hard punch, so I just used one where she was boxing.

My mother is a sex therapist and she refuses to work with lesbian couples now because they get very violent during sessions, to the point where she feared for her safety during one. It's crazy how out of hand it becomes.

...Should I crop out my face next time or something? I have no ill intent, I'm genuinely passionate about men's rights, and I just wanted to share my poster.

Oh shit, thanks man. The poster was a bit last minute, so I pulled the statistic from www.realsexism.com If I happen to make another poster on this issue I will definitely clarify.

I had an assignment where we had to do a poster on something we're passionate about. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a vehement men's rights activist, and quite a vocal one. I used to be a huge social justice warrior, until I started getting too deep into it that it felt really stupid. I think it was cultural appropriation that really made me think "wait what is going on?" I did some reflection and research and I realized how hypocritical feminism (and most SJW topics) were. My uncle was in an abu…

I don't think bringing attention to domestic violence against women is silencing men, I just think we really don't talk about men being the victim. Domestic violence is not and should not be a gendered issue, I just don't see much acknowledging that men are very likely to be victims, too. Women are in a good place. Of course, nothing will stop domestic violence, but we're doing what we can to help women, and it's working well. Men don't have it as nice as we do. There's so little shelters and it…

Yep! This is the study. IIRC it was done by Harvard? I could be wrong, though. The study has been peer reviewed, and it's pretty legitimate.

Wow that's a great idea, actually... If I make another one I'll definitely be taking my friend's pictures to make the silhouettes. Noted for next time.

This. When looking for a silhouette of domestic abuse I found no woman on man abuse. In all honesty, I'm not surprised, but there's just a lot of stigma around domestic violence that it can "only be perpetuated by a man, which is obviously wrong. I'm just trying to help right some wrongs.

Yeah, I know. Due to lack of research on domestic violence for men, the margin of error is huge. It probably leans more to the higher side, though, as a lot of domestic violence goes unreported, especially against men.
/r/MensRights04/10/16 01:26 AM
You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
