Some weirdos get off on inappropriate power dynamics, so there's that.

Here's something I wrote on another thread recently, that I think you could benefit from: Have you read the sidebar there yet? Anything I could tell you would be a subpar regurgitation of that. Most of that is just a regurgitation of others' experiences. The real value of this community is developing the ability to think critically about social interaction, and have people to talk to who aren't competing with you, protecting your feelings, or keeping you from moving forward. My one rule: leave h…

I'd like to see you repeat this experiment across the world using fake gps data. This would be much more informative.

It's not about whether something is actually fun or not. Its about being able to enjoy things, and not being too worried about being cool.

That's fine. But the writing in this article is just awful. are brain responds when someone mentoins are name. Setting aside the grammar issues, this vague attempt at using psychology to backup the author's claims is cringeworthy.

When you’re talking to someone and every once and a while you say their name, we are hardwired to act positively and are brain responds when someone mentoins are name . So next time you’re talking to someone you like, drop their name in there every now and again. Gross Edit:this is an excerpt from the article.

My favorite example of this super formal japanese (honorific, I think it's called) is one from my teacher: Casual: Tabemasuka? (do you eat) Formal: blahblahblahstuffididntunderstandka? (Do you sometimes take actions to become full)

What's really interesting though, is that the information rate typically remains the same: eg languages that sound faster actually have a lower information density. Linguistics major here. You too? Also, I've been getting into K-pop lately. I love me some girls day, if not just for the hot women.

haha yeah. That drives me up the wall in my Japanese classes. Things like how it's wrong to say an exact time when you're telling somebody about a scheduled event, yet they idolize punctuality drive me nuts.

I'm not sure. Google translate gets it. I once put in "watashi no kurojin" and it translated as "my negro". Now it translates it as "black person" but I still laugh when I think about it. http://i.qkme.me/3stvzm.jpg

That too. Also, we abuse the word kurojin a lot more than we should.

Learn some adjectives, and go "_____ desu ne." You've just learned the japanese version of "You're a ______ one, aren't you." You can now do cold reads in two languages.

This guy knows what's up. Hopefully, if you're in Japan, you already know pronunciation, so I won't worry about that. If anybody asks, I'll add some derpy-looking pronunciation guides. You're way more formal (and eloquent) than me (a non native speaker). I'd just say "Sumimasen, _____ wa, doko ni arimasu ka?" "Exceuse me, but where is _____?" If they give you a fight, throw in "Daijoubu. Watashi no nihongo ga dame desu ne." (best said with a slight chuckle) "It's alright, my japanese is bad, isn…

I feel like I've just been introduced to disneyland. Well, except for the fact that you sound like an ad on the side of the pirate bay. "Lonely Japanese girls come here to meet and bang white guys like you."
