IMO, temptation to sin is a result of the conflict between our animal desires and our knowledge of God's will. We want, deeply, to do what feels good in the moment. Like all animals. And still we have a unique awareness, an ability to recognize a difference between what we want to do and what we should do. Animals follow only their desire, but because they have no capability for choice (at least not in comparison to man), they have no capability for sin. God, conversely, has no desire in this se…

I still think the advice needs to be taken within the context of the reader's experience, disposition, etc. That's a good point though. I know a lot of men who seek wives/girlfriends primarily as "best friends," secondarily as... someone to fulfill this christian concept of the feminine role (as mothers?). It seems to work for a time at least, but I'm starting to see evidence that it may not be sustainable. You might be right that the men in OP's description have the wrong priorities in relation…

In general, sure. But everyone has a different set of constraints and limitations with which to contend. Since we're each bound by our own specific humanity, the best/practical solution isn't necessarily the same for everyone. And of course femininity is not the *only* trait God wants in your wife. For one, the potential for a healthy, deeply intimate relationship is important. The masculine/feminine dichotomy is valuable, I agree. But I'd guess that even in the cases OP is talking about, that d…

Might be that the highly successful men have certain personality traits that make them unlikely to find companionship in attractive women. Attractive women always having the option of falling back on their looks, rather than developing compatible traits to the same degree. For ex., say to be highly successful you need to be not only intelligent but also extremely conscientious, and maybe even a little bit neurotic / obsessive. Well, you might find an intelligent, attractive woman - but is she go…

Love it. Think the writing could use a little more polish, but there are some great ideas here.

It's not whether you give fucks. It's where you give fucks. You only have so many fucks to give. Choose wisely.

That is just not true. Animals are hedonistic. Humans are clearly something more. That's essentially the core of religion (at least Christianity). That the best course of action is the pursuit of meaning through the moral "good," rather than through self-serving pleasure. Regardless of Christianity being "correct" or not, the fact that people follow it and forgo certain pleasures means they're doing more than blindly seeking pleasure. I guess you can argue that anything you choose to do is hedon…

Yeah. Men do this all the time.

Love your analytical approach. For the most part I agree with you, but of course it's always contextual, and depends on what exactly a guy is looking for. You make it easy to understand how to make that decision yourself by clearly explaining the 'why' behind your reasoning. Good stuff, thanks

Counterargument: Women like sex, but experience sex drive in a very different way. For men, it's an urge to fuck. To seek out, to penetrate, to dominate. It's an urge that compels action. For women, it's an urge to get fucked. To be receptive, to be filled. It's an urge that compels more passively - a horny woman may not initiate anything, but she will put herself in a position to be noticed, to be approached, to be lead into a sexual interaction. She is compelled to submit, rather than dominate…

100% agree with you there. Just seemed to me like everyone here was only looking at things from the one side.

...he may good at maintaining a relationship, but he's terrible at sex. It seems to me the question being asked here is would you rather be the "sex guy" trope (amazing lover, zero emotional skills) or the "relationship guy" trope (emotionally brilliant, with zero sexual ability). Neither is good, but both are options. If you're looking to eventually find a long-term relationship with a quality woman, putting all your eggs into the sex guy trope basket will leave you disappointed. (Same goes for…

Care to elaborate? I can back this stuff up. Very possible you're "hamstering" here by staying attached to an overly simplistic understanding of what it takes to be good with women. e.g., "I could easily be great with women, but I'm not willing to become a narcissist." That would be hamstering. You can be a great guy who's also good with women. In fact, it helps a lot. Idgaf about impressing anyone. Genuinely trying to help.

Hot take: you can't be one without the other. Women like sex guy not just because he's hot, but because he's a fun person to be around. And fun is a huge part of being in a relationship with someone. Nobody wants to be bored. And relationship guy knows this too. He knows that to keep his girl around, he needs to keep things interesting, he needs to flirt with her, tease her. He knows how to be sex guy, at least every now and then. Maybe sex guy doesn't give off commitment vibes, but that's not t…

Sex guy can still be pretty lonely. Just because you're attractive doesn't mean you're constantly meeting quality women. In fact, most of the girls sex guy is getting probably aren't relationship material. If you're looking for a good relationship, you need to be able to vet women through a relationship lens. For that purpose, being 'relationship guy' is useful. But for sure, you need to be both.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
