I agree with you there. The ONS site is terrible to navigate and has so many statistics of the same headings it’s impossible to find anything

I could only find this source regarding domestic abuse: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/articles/domesticabusevictimcharacteristicsenglandandwales/yearendingmarch2019#sex With women at 7.5% and men at 5.7%. This isn’t me trying to be contrary, I would like to know what sources you have seen

In Scotland it was a Great advancement in sexual assault. The only main gripe I have with the 2009 act is that due to the wording women can’t be rapist. That being said a women being found as guilty for “raping” a man carries generally the same sentence. It just doesn’t have the same connotations to it and perpetuates the stereotype regarding men and sexual assault
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/01/21 11:25 AM

I guess this depends about how you define bodily autonomy. In Scotland the situation we are discussing would be classed as a severe form of sexual assault. Basically it’s sexual assault if proper consent is not obtained and an example of this is “would the information have changed the party’s choice to have sex”. With a women lying about being on birth control she would change the circumstances on which consent was obtained. In doing so I would argue she was violating my bodily autonomy, doing s…

“Nobody should be forced to have a child they did not want” is what I open with and find agreement in the room. But when I explain that extends to men as well I get told that’s sexist because; Women are vulnerable (chemical imbalances and such) when pregnant and it wouldn’t be fair to them. Men should take the risk if they don’t know the consequences “Think how hard it would be for a young mother to support a child by herself”. I accidentally got a girl pregnant when I was 17 and I cannot imagin…

This is what irks me the most. Whenever I tell people I’m a supporter for men’s rights they automatically assume I am a right winger who votes Trump. I can’t blame these people that much as I feel, especially of late, that “men’s rights” have only been used to bring down feminism. For example when women’s sexual assault is being discussed and many people say “well yeah but men are raped too” but they have no actual interest in reforming the policies that affect men (and women) they only use the …

You’ve said a few things that I’d like to talk about (without arguing aggressively like you’ve said). What exactly is it about the LGBT curriculum that you don’t want taught to children? Your thoughts on feminism interest, what exactly do you believe the current “goal” of feminism is? I’m sure this is hard to define for any of as there is no “feminist ltd” that sets the goals. By gender theory do are you referring to transgender people and gender roles? What exactly, to you, are traditional fami…

That’s not how words work though. The word Democratic means a country is a fair democracy, therefore North Korea is democratic. China is a country for the people.

Look we aren’t going to reach an agreement on this. I guess North Korea is a democratic country, China is country for the people, there’s no division in the UNITED states of America or the UNITED kingdom.

You’re still not getting. I still want the police to enforce the laws and arrests rapist and murderers. I don’t want the police to kill, maim and harass incorrect civilians (particularly minorities) impunity. I want to keep the good parts and leave the bad parts. I feel you are being intentionally naive here man. Literally just research what the slogan actually means instead of taking it at face value. Could I support the Republican Party justly by saying “well they are for the republic, I live in the republic, so I’ll vote for them”?

I’m really not sure what your first point alludes to. Please explain. I mean, anything sounds stupid when used in the wrong context? Yeah “reform the police” would’ve been better. Key word: would’ve. The fact is, “defund the police” is now the slogan and as shit as it is we have to deal with that. We can either Infight amongst ourselves or understand what the slogan actually means.

I fully agree that a social worker can’t respond to a violent mentally ill person without police protection, that’s what happens here in the U.K. It’s a much better option than just sending police who will, drag you through the hallways, shoot your dog, shoot you and overstep their jurisprudence.

I implied that the broad meaning behind defund the police is diverting funds to social programmes. Which can all be googled. Obviously there are going to be people who interpret it differently but that happens when literally every single political ideology in the world. “No justice, no peace” was prominently chanted during the protests but guess what phrase makes for a better headline? Hindsight is 20/20 and if I could change the past to alter the terminology then I 100% would. However, that is where we are and people can good what the general term means. To me “divert funding from the police and direct it to other social programmes” isn’t as catchy. And yes even though the slogan implies something different it’s really not hard to search what the term actually means. Would you accept that North Korea is an entirely democratic nation? The term “defund the police” is exactly that https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defund_the_police Reforming will cost more money, yes, but the point of ACAB and Defund the police is to defund the current status of the over militarised police force. To say that the slogan means that people want all funding taken away from the police is an incredibly bad faith view. In addition to this I would like to add: The fact that the length of training is embarrassingly short, in many states a hairdresser has to complete more weeks of training than a police officer. The quality of training, very little de-escalation tactics or understanding of mental illnesses. This often leads to officers simply not knowing how to deal with people with autism or other disabilities. Again, I’ve never said circumcision is a good thing. You point is that 1/100 circumcisions are botched whereas all of FGM are “botched”. It’s like asking you whether you’d like to be hit by a motorbike or an 18 wheeler. Both suck and shouldn’t happen but one is considerably worse. All I’m trying to do is strengthen your argument.
/r/MensRights10/12/20 07:58 PM

Really great points. However I would like to add that FGM is much worse than Circumcision with its effects on later life. That isn’t to say that circumcision is fine. It absolutely isn’t but I think it’s quite a weak argument to compare it to FGM. I think the basic argument of “it’s fucking barbaric” is simple enough.

I heard an interesting podcast discussing the possibilities of why men are more violent and rough. It discussed the instinctive caveman feelings men still have such as hunting for food and fighting other males for whatever reason. Modern society doesn’t have this need for men to be violent anymore however this is still engrained in us. Edit: if anyone knows of the podcast please tell me, I’ve been trying to find it for ages.

I don’t believe in harsh consequences for these kids. I believe in therapy and open discussions with them. There’s absolutely no point in putting two kids who sent naked pictures of themselves (which is classed as the distribution and reception and child pornography) to be put on the same level as adults who watched child pornography or sexually assault people.

I’m not sure where you’re from (I assume America) but here in the U.K. we have Romeo and Juliet Laws where it’s not as clear cut as you said. For example, I first had sex when I was 15 and my girlfriend was 16. She by law raped me as I could not consent. However, the courts have discretion in these cases and the circumstances of our relationship (which predates her 16th Birthday) would be taken into account.

How would this rape shield work when a woman has been proven to of lied about rape before? Are the courts just absolutely not allowed to bring up anything from their past or is it only past legal cases?

Honestly, I try to find shows that have decent representation with shoving it down your throat. Shows like Avatar the last Air bender has some female equality themes to it but it doesn’t feel forced at all. That’s the problem with most modern TV shows, the put the message above the quality of the Show. By all means show how empowering women can be, that’s incredibly important to influe…

I’m not sure I agree with this. The ban on abortion is, in my opinion, a much more serious medical threat than being forced to wear a mask. Can no shirt no services rules be challenged by my body my choice? Does a patriarchy have to have to have men having the position of power because they are men? A patriarchy simply means men are in charge, which they are. Now despite men being in charge this does not mean that every man benefits from it. Arguably more men than women are disadvantaged by the patriarchy. As to your second point. We agree on that, the patriarchy in the feminist sense of the world does not exist. I’m not sure why you mentioned that

75% of global parliaments consist of men and of the Fortune 500 companies 453 of them have male ceos. By definition that is a patriarchy, men have the powerful positions. If you read my comment I stated that I don’t believe there is a patriarchy in the way that feminists claim there is. Where the world is ruled by men for the benefit of men to the detriment of women. That is what I don’t agree with. Read my comment next time, idiot.

The term patriarchy sits funny with me. By definition yes we live in a patriarchy, world leaders and ceos mainly consist of men. But it’s the twisting of the word I hate. As you pointed out, they use the term patriarchy to mean “a world that benefits men” when this isn’t what a patriarchy is. The patriarchy is incredibly wealthy men (and many women) not giving a shit about the working class. If you ask me that’s where the real issue is, class wars. So while I do agree that the “patriarchy” is ca…

In an ideal world, yes no draft would be amazing. A) because no one should be forced into the army if they don’t want B) my own personal feelings about the military industrial complex. The way I see it feminists aren’t fighting to combat the draft in American, as it doesn’t affect women. So I would say either feminists start caring about the draft and getting it abolished, and if you don’t care about it then let’s have equal rights and force you to sign up for the draft. That’s exactly what it reminded me of, the Buzzfeed articles during the Winter Olympics. One second they have an article about how we shouldn’t sexualise female athletes (which is a very valid point) and the next, as you say, they have a compilation of the best bulges in spandex. But do the viewers see a double standard here? Their rebuttal would be along the lines of “well the men seem fine and they chose to be there” which is a common line in Defense of ring girls. This advert is from Ru Paul’s Drag race, a show which follows the formulaic TV competition style regarding drag queens. I have nothing against drag queens or the LGBT+ community, people should be able to carry out their hobbies as long as no one is being hurt. This transcript is only around 20 seconds of the entire thing but it is probably the most important part of the conversation. As to why it was recorded I’ve read it was an informal therapy session that Heard recorded on her phone and Depp somehow got ahold of it or he himself was recording. This was subsequently leaked to the DM and released hence why the whole drama is trending again.
/r/MensRights02/02/20 04:36 PM

I would also just like to add that I do believe Heard is institutionally innocent till proven guilty, as I do with any of these allegations wether it be Weinstein (I’m not too sure what evidence there is, if someone can provide solid evidence this could change my mind) or with Depp back in the day. I think she was trying to grasp at straws by arguing with semantics. I.E hitting meaning forceful contact of any kind and punching being closed fist. Like I hit you with a bat but punch you with my closed fist. Obviously it’s the same thing (assault) she was just trying to win a tiny argument with him. As for the toe thing I’m not too sure. I agree with your point regarding males and rape. It wasn’t until 2009 in Scotland that men could be raped, under the Sexual Offence (Scotland) Act. It outlines the rape of a male in the same way you have it in the US. So males have it worse in terms of the law. But women still suffer more sexual assault crimes than men, yes this could be due to the lack of reporting and the horrible “man up” term that gets launched at male victims. Does this negate the horrible stuff that happens to women?
