I have been ruminating on the selfishness question for quite awhile- it kinda stuck with me. I can’t disagree but at the end of the day, I’m not the one initiating. I’m just tired and want to move on. I fully expect to keep the kids present in my life as much or even more than now. And there are strong reasons why my stbx and son should have some space from each other. I think the potential pros outweigh the cons. But what do I know, it’s just getting started

Sry man. I’m in the weeds, kinda hard to keep up. But didn’t want you to think you were shouting into the void totally

EDIT: Should add HER CD is marital property, mine is not (inheritance). Thought that might be relevant after the fact.

Hmm. I’ll have to think on that more. I DO feel like my son blames himself- and he’s not wrong. The stress he’s added certainly is a big factor in the wife wanting to leave- those two simply don’t get along right now. So I am puzzled why she would do an about-face on staying vs going. Except that it would be more comfortable and financially advantageous. So… But I don’t see how it is going to relieve the conflict between them.

Again, appreciate the food for thought. Gotta say being selfish was not an observation I was expecting- but there is a fair point to be considered there. My initial thought is that AFA the kids are concerned, peace will bring stability, stability will bring order, and order will establish structure. All these things are wanting and needed. I have done a pretty good job of remaining even tempered and not elevate when we disagree. She has a temper and it frequently shows up as a heated overreactio…

This is good food for thought. I have been talking to them over time. I don’t think mom is bashing me- I think she just doesn’t share with them. To which I disagree. One of many issues we don’t share perspective on. Slow and methodical right now feels like death by a thousand cuts

She doesn’t believe in counseling, and honestly I think it’s past that. There is stuff broken that I don’t think can be fixed without a time machine

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
