But seriously, why are (many) women this way? My STBX is a very educated, intelligent, and accomplished woman, but has no self awareness about how she treats me (or the kids). I don't "watch the kids" because I'm not constantly yelling at them. I have never demanded of her the things she demands of me.

The goalposts are constantly moving. "I don't want to be in a relationship that's going nowhere" -> Got married "I want to have kids before it's too late." -> Had 3 kids "We need to build wealth for the future." -> Bought a house "This house is too crappy." -> Kitchen remodel "This house is too small (and still too crappy)." -> Built a brand new, 3500 sq.ft. house "I lost myself and don't want to be married anymore." -> Got divorced

Thank you all for sharing. I could've written many of these comments as well and I'm definitely saving this post to look back on when I need the reminder! My STBXW's favorite line when I question her unreasonable expectations is, "I shouldn't have to lower my standards to be with you."

3 kids between 5 and 11 years old. And yeah, if it weren't for the kids and the support from her family, I would move back to where I'm from.

Oh, I've been living in the anger phase for a while now. It's the main thing keeping me out of the depression phase. But I can't cut her out completely; we have 3 young kids. And her family loves me and doesn't understand what she's doing either. I'm ready to put my MIL down as my emergency contact to be honest.

No, that's not what I'm saying. Of course I have friends here and they've been very supportive and helpful throughout this whole thing. I guess I feel that listing someone as an emergency contact is a different level of relationship, more like family.

Right here.Together 17, married 11, 3 young kids, brand new 3500 sq.ft. damn near million dollar home for our family of 5 plus the dog. Three weeks after we moved in I get, "I just don't want to be married anymore." Cue the new clothes, trips with new friends, boob job. Her family loves me and doesn't get it either.

Together 17 married 11 when she said she no longer wanted to be married. For me, I think it had more to do with our youngest kid finally being school age and no longer a "baby". In fact, a significant percentage of the guys in my men's divorce group were told it was over when our youngest kids were around 4 or 5 years old. Also in my case, it came once she finally ticked the last thing off her list that she needed from me. Three weeks after moving into the new house we had built for our family o…

My STBX and I are still living under the same roof with our three young kids while we're sorting the whole mess out. But her new friends, none of whom I've ever met, are "concerned for her safety". Funny, her family that's known me for almost 20 years, aren't worried. They're more worried about me and the kids 🤷‍♂️

This is my experience as well. Nothing was ever enough for her. Once she got her high-paying management position, three kids, and million dollar house, she finally didn't need me anymore. Three weeks after we moved in, she suddenly didn't want to be married (but no, she hadn't been planning this 🙄).

My variation to this is that she is the one who is an emotionally abusive narcissist, so she can't really accuse me of being one, although she denies that she is, of course. Haven't gotten to the monkey branching part, but I did just accidentally find out that she had an IUD put in. At least she's not cheating on me, is what she has said. I also think the boob job is an add-on to the new friend group.

Wondering if your walkway wife has the same attitude as mine... When I brought up how stabbed in the back I felt by her decision to just end our 17 year relationship with three young kids together just three weeks after moving into the our (her?) dream home that we had built, her response was, "Well, this could have been way worse. At least I'm not cheating on you." As if that gives her the moral high ground.

In the depression stage of grief, she became "Destroyer of Worlds" with a picture of a nuclear explosion (I had just seen Oppenheimer as well, so it made sense😅). Now she is "The Worst" with a picture of Jean Ralphio saying the line from Parks and Rec. Him saying that is also my text alert for any messages from her.

I am on the receiving end, to a certain degree, of what you're talking about. My wife makes about 40% more than I do. She's now the one that "lost herself" and wants to get divorced. Her strategy has been to try to gaslight me into believing that I don't deserve child support or even an equal split of our marital assets after 17 years of being together. It's not working and now she thinks she can fight this in court or quit her job so she doesn't have to pay me. At the very least, then a good ch…

I had to go back and make sure I didn't write the OPs post. This is exactly what I'm going through right now. And this comment was one of my talking points to her as well. But apparently she would rather not have to worry about anyone else (i.e. me) and only have to be a parent to our three kids under age 10 50% of the time. Then the other 50% of her time can be spent pretending she's 20 again instead of 40.

I meet with a divorce support group for men. There are about 15 of us total and like 6 of us have specifically a 4 year old. I haven't been able to put my finger on what changes right then.

Against All Odds by Phil Collins might do the trick.

I used to think that the only people who got divorced were either alcoholic adulterers or trashy golddiggers. I've since discovered that there are a LOT of us who are nothing like that and never thought this would happen to us. Pretty tragic unfortunately.

Thank you for writing this (and to everyone else who has responded). I've been in the EXACT same boat for over 5 months now. I spent the entire summer going through all the stages of grief, except for acceptance, while my wife sat on the bomb she dropped on what I thought my life was and was going to be, doing nothing to move the process forward. My life continued to be exactly the same, taking care of our three kids ages 4-10, grocery shopping for the family, cutting the grass, talking to the n…

Interesting...I hadn't even considered child support because we're splitting the 3 kids 50/50, but according to the online calculator I found, it shows her owing me just shy of $700/month.

50/50 custody is not in question. In fact, she doesn't WANT to have to be a mom more than 50% of her time 🤷‍♂️
