How ever there is strong evidence that the school system is biased in favor of girls and that girls are more successful in it. I suspect that this is what /u/goldberry2000 is referring to. The Judge in Coast's trial expressed being "deeply disturbed" about the situation as a whole. I think this point may have been a part of it. The victim certainly should not have been convicted without any tangible evidence. Major errors were made by the judge in the original case. I highly recommend this truth in justice article. I think that if you get caught perjuring yourself at any time there should be a harsh penalty. The extenuating circumstances were that in this case she didn't get caught and wasn't going to get caught, she came clean. And this kind of situation needs to be treated differently, not to reward her, but to avoid punishing the victim of the situation. You might already know this, but by "come forward" they mean "come clean about their lies"; they aren't worries about women coming forward with accusations. The judge was concerned that by harshly punishing people who come clean, people will be less likely to in the future. This woman had no external motivation to come forward, and if she hadn't the man would still be in prison. I think most people agree that male rapes have a higher incidence of non-reporting, but there are very few sources that estimate that rape effects men more overall. 2	Thanks, UN. You're right, and I didn't mean to imply that men's welfare groups don't provide valuable services. And I definitely agree that often when men's welfare groups try to engage in productive activism and provide services they are often unfairly villainized by the media and by certain women's groups. But mens welfare groups to place so much emphasis on things like calendars not including International Men's Day, and are rarely seen doing things like tutoring disadvantaged boys. As long as this is the case its going to be very hard to people to come around to seeing them as serious groups promoting awareness for serious issues. That being said, I definitely think that there's a lack of awareness in developed countries about some of the problems associated with a lack of sanitation infrastructure. I was unaware that a lack of sanitation and water resources was such a contributing factor to sexual violence in underdeveloped countries until I read about it today. But judging from the top scoring links this sub seems more concerned with getting banned from subreddits, idiotic facebook posts, and tabloid news.
