Adding to this.... record everything. Days out of the house, conversations with her, conversations with your kids,. You need proof to get custody.

'she's been under the care of a doctor and on meds' : What type of doctor? If therapist, keep track of types of meds, for how long, etc. Both of you work? Either way, you might consider counseling first. There are a lot of stories of toxic wives in here, and yours does not sound like one.

Have no regrets David. She is not the woman you imagined. My wife is beautiful, smart, loving, and resourceful. I never imagined that she would emotionally abuse her own kids, so I am leaving her... she is not the person I fell in love with... may be she never was. Probably this is the same for you. Can you say 'My wife was amazing' and 'She left her 4 kids' in the same sentence? You can't... so, no regrets.

My name is not David, and I have not been in your situation, but hear me out. Think about all the other times you faced problems, and realize that you solved them - otherwise you would not have four kids, taken care of the farm, your grandma, etc. You solved all of your problems - every time - one way or another - I am sure you did. And this is just one more problem, and you can solve it too. First, you need to do all you can to get stronger - as the other poster here suggested - exercise, medit…

Mine is Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. About to divorce... all nice. Without the threat to divorce, no respect and emotional abuse to throw around.

Ok... watchout. She should not know of what you have until you get to mediation or court. Catch her by surprise so she will not have time to prepare. Unprepared, her narcissism and nonsense will come out right there in front of the judge or attorney. No time to clean herself up will be your victory.

Wow... that is a bit my position. In the last 2 years I read a few books: Boundaries, Emotional black mail, The narcissist in your life, No more mr nice guy, necessary endings, etc

Did you record conversations? Kept a diary? Do you have embarrassing conversations that would put her in a tight place?

I agree but consider that it might affect her professional career. The way it should play is like this: find an out of town attorney, go to mediation, during meditation she should agree with many of your requests otherwise you take her court, where you can potentially harm her career.

Sounds like my STBXW, who thinks women are better, her race is better, her genes are better, her logic is better, and thanks God my son is just like her - unless he does something wrong, in which case he is my son, and 'that' must be my genes.

Life can be an amazing experience. Go camping with friends, fishing, Las Vegas, a cruise in the Mediterrano, or a meditation camp in the Himalayas. Live your life fully so your son has someone great to look up to, instead of those two sorry asses that will end up destroying each other. Whatever you do, don't become another victim of their sorry existence.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
