This is the biggest thing for me. Everything feminism is on paper or ideally, is pretty much exactly right, but then somehow in practice it effectively infantilizes women every step of the way, almost to the point that its reaffirming the very misogynistic ideas about woman that persist in our world, that feminism is supposed to be in opposition too

even tho “girls can game now”, gaming with the bros has always been a very good male space. sports in any capacity (betting/watching/playing) is predominantly male as well and a very simple game to just do or take trips for is golf. recently the men in my family/family friends have gotten into golf and now trips are happening and the younger gens are included too. pool may also be a good one too my dad is an avid cyclist and has friends through that

No one denies shit that happens to women. But a lot of studies are demonstrably horse shit

They genuinely dont. They are very mild. I dont have any idea if they would even count, especially compared to what other people experience, the only thing that sticks in my mind is “if i was a woman this might be viewed totally different”

Ive experienced a few mild things from men and women. I dont really care about them personally for various reasons but specifically the glaring double standard makes me confused and distressed

If you were a woman, people would find a way to do a lot more to keep you from being homeless, including people that don't otherwise treat women well. I dont know if that means individuals are misandrist, but there is clearly a horrible consequence for men as a result

Its may be true that misogyny is in some way a bigger thing than misandry, I really have no idea how to quantify this, but its very clear there are 2 different standards. Are perceived "micro aggressions" towards women counted as misogyny regardless of context? Probably. Is the exact same phenomenon not even on anyones radar in the other direction? Also probably. I genuinely find myself very lost and confused as a man regarding this topic. I dont feel this way as a white straight person. Somethi…

It works as a general rule of thumb. Is it unfair that Mike Tyson has to be careful play boxing his friends because he could kill them? Its no different. A bigger woman should be expected to be careful not to smother small men with their huge thighs as well.

I didnt say or imply otherwise, its just an example

Theres one problem I have with all this data in any direction is how things are defined and context. For example lets say a man is not violent at all, but hes the patriarch conservative type that thinks men and women have their roles. The dynamic of the marriage inevitably leaves the woman inherently trapped and without much agency. Maybe the man verbally abuses her and controls her life. She does not have equal access to finances. Maybe she becomes depressed, cynical and abusive; Or maybe she d…

Are there any books by those people you mentioned?

If a girl is aggressive sexually, its understood that the guy will have no problem resisting if he doesnt want to. If a guy has the same attitude and behavior, a lot of women would struggle to resist the same way. Even if the intent of both is harmless, and depending on whos on the receiving end, perhaps extremely attractive, materially one has a greater capacity for harm. The small aggressive girl is at worst viewed as an angry chihuahua. I dont think its unfair for people to be aware of this. …

I think its difficult because the typical lense for which we look at the world on the left that explains things, does a really good job of explaining things most of the time, but its not a perfect fit for this and nobody has come up with an alternative explanation for the facts. Most people have a sense of justice and at the core, anyone that falls nominally left will care a lot about people. If we are talking about white supremacy, class privilege, heteronormativity, colonization and such, its …

Theres probably a lot of reasons but one of them has gotta be systemic/cultural, perhaps some might call it patriarchy. For example, if a poor family is struggling, the man is going to be the one who has to do whatever is necessary to provide. Not only will they be the one to do it, but this will likely also effect them psychologically, making them more likely to do what has to be done.

This didnt look like the “ick” to me. This looked like she was disappointed because she wanted one thing, and he wanted another, (obvious double standard) perhaps influenced by feminist ideas like the emotional labor part. If she said “i just dont care about mens feelings and its super unattractive to me bc x” that says ick to me.

What is the criteria for depression? Are they including all the co morbid mental factors or just some vague definition of depression or specifically a diagnosis of MDD??

Most of the insufferable men out there are probably experiencing depression internally. Just talk to any drunk man no matter their background at a bar and you can tell they are suffering somewhere

The logic doesnt make any sense. There are women I really like, and I know there are more things I want to experience before I want long term commitment. Wouldn’t you want your partner to have the experience to actually know they can commit?

Yes but you would know that its worth it. Its better to be sorry than safe. Comfortably leaving is better than staying discomfortably

Exactly. So even if this were true, the question becomes what exactly is your point? What is inherently valuable about pair bonds, especially when it could hold you back, cause trauma in unhealthy bonds and just like with jobs, prevent you from exploring what the world has to offer. Its really telling on themselves. Its about control masquerading as genuine interest in a “pair bond”

Yeah reason is good, but it needs to be grounded in empiricism

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
