You're right, but the issue is whether that matters. Making up my own numbers for illustration, if 5 women were murdered out of 10 total workplace deaths versus 50 out of 100 for men you could still say that women are proportionally more likely to be murdered. Even if ten times the amount of men were murdered. Essentially, it obfuscates the severity of the problem.

It is illegal for a company to fire an employee for asking others about wages. Companies often say this, assuming their employees won't know this and sue them after the fact. This whole thing is covered by the National Labor Relations Act at the federal level. That said, be discreet. Just because you can doesn't mean you won't suffer any consequences.

Maybe I'm too geeky, but the idea that one of the defining moments in comics' history can be boiled down to 'women in refrigerators' and sexist because its whole purpose was to make Spider-Man sad just gets the internet rage in me. Pretty much, yeah. The Soviets lost about a third of their territory and half their population. And he let it go. Even fought off a coup attempt. Well, the only caveat here as for the "big leader" hypothesis would be Gorbachev. The Soviets were finished as a world power by the late 80s due to economics, but it's possible a leader other than Gorby would have sent in the tanks to prevent fragmentation. That would, at the very least, started a war in Eastern Europe and at best maintained Soviet control. Instead Gorby really believed in socialism and thought the people would choose to stay. They did not. And he let them go.

I think the more accurate way to put it is that female circumcision can be worse than that for males. That isn't to say that it is, only that that possibility exists. And then be specific about what types of circumcision to which we are referring. Of course that works the other way around too. The statement isn't bullshit, it merely requires a more granular analysis.

Because some versions of FGM involve particularly heinous practices. For example, type three FGM entails sewing the vagina shut (after a complete cliterectomy and removal of the labias minora and majora) with thorns. The vagina then has to be cut open again to allow for intercourse and childbirth. I'm not saying male circumcision is acceptable, it isn't. But it is still far less devastating, barring complications, than type three FGM.

There are many non-statistical, yet scientific ways to reason and test hypotheses. I suggest reading some works on how qualitative reasoning works in distinction to quantitative. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but both are also absolutely necessary for science, social or otherwise.

Romeo and Juliet were both teenagers so they would both theoretically be guilty of rape assuming they had sex. Laws that would make allowances for teenagers tend to be called Romeo and Juliet laws for this reason. But you are right that that isn't in the play.

More specifically, the charge is that he began to have sex with her while she was sleeping and neglected to wear a condom.
