At 5'9" and 83kg you are small.

A philosophical discussion starts with definition of terms. WTF do you mean by "energy." Regardless of whether you're right or not, this needs a rewrite.

Yes, please to believe that, tiny man.

They're going to choose the 220@10% guy over the 175@10% guy every time. Getting to 220@10% is not hard, but I don't doubt you have no idea how to do it.

I'm starting to love these kinds of posts because, if people believe this, there's less competition for me.

I'm not saying it's not physically possible. I'm just saying you're a small man and you're using the wrong programming for a small man.

If you're squatting less than 500 you shouldn't be on 531.

Your downvotes taste so good mmmm. Hurts knowing you wasted so much time in the gym don't it?

Fuck whether or not your lifts are stalling. How much has your total increased in the last month? In the last week? You are certainly not making the progress you could be by not eating.

Good for you man. Seems like everyone around here is fucking delusional about how big you can get because they're too afraid to break parallel on the squat. 255 at 6'4" sounds completely reasonable to me.

Sorry, but it's not a slow process when you start. If you're not gaining around 30-40 lbs. of lean mass (assuming about 5'9") the first 6-8 months, get yourself a fucking coach because son, you too fucking stupid to be using the weightroom alone.

Sorry, but yes you do need to get huge, and yes you CAN get huge, and no you don't need to be a fat fuck to do it. OP - you're 165 lbs and you've been training for 10 years. Assuming you're not a midget, how sad is that? I've been training for barely a little over 18 months and my lean mass is already 30 lbs heavier than you @17% bodyfat with no steroids and no coach. But I guess I'm not constantly freaking out about what other people think of my physique like the massive pussies around here. Ev…

I would say you're at too much of a calorie deficit to get improvements. Have you considered going to a coach? SS Coaches are fucking amazing. How much do you sleep? How much red meat/eggs/milk are you eating? How about fish? How about vegetables? Calorie and macro counting only go so far. At the end of the day, some foods are just better than others. What are your rest times? A rule of thumb is use 5-8 minutes. But the real secret is to start the next set when you know (with absolute certainty)…

OP I want to add that, based on your starting weight, current lifting numbers and time spent under the bar, something is wrong. 1) Do you skip sessions? Cut that shit out. 2) What are you eating? The glorious triad of red meat/eggs/whole milk will make your muscles swell up like balloons (eat enough fish and vegetables along with this). Based on your current numbers it's possible you have lost TOO much weight during your novice period. If your bf% is greater than 15, let yourself gain a pound or…

He has certainly not scraped out all the noob gains unless he's on the absolute bottom of the genetic ladder.

I agree. I started as a 160lbs wimpy faggot and I was hitting 330x5 squat, 225x5 bench, 150x5 OHP, and 380x5 deadlift after 7 months. My programming could have used massive improvements but I am not genetically gifted. I just ate and slept like a god.

5x5s work well once per week once you're out of the "newb phase."

As a novice, you should be focusing on increasing strength, not work capacity. Switch to 3x5s now and increase your rest time. 5x5s are an awful idea for novices. Doing 5x5s at real capacity (85% of 1RM) requires 8-10 minutes of rest between sets and will knock you on your ass for 3-4 days. Doing 5x5s with 3 minutes of rest between sets is laughable - you're now down to about 70-75% of 1RM. Instead of doing all that work, drop the work and increase the stress per rep. This will let you train you…

Actually, I feel bad for you. But if you want proof this kind of strength gain is possible, check out the Starting Strength report every week. Regularly, there are people in their gyms that get strong faster than I did. For instance, this week, they reported on a trainee that went from 185->207 and took his squat from 165->315x5x3 IN TWO MONTHS. http://startingstrength.com/report/the-report-june-20-2016 This shit happens all the time. Get a coach and quit being a bitch.

1) Read Starting Strength/Practical Programming about five times and internalize them. It's the best starting point by far and provides a comprehensive context from which to interpret other people's advice. Once you squat 405x1 you can have your own opinion. 2) Eat more cholesterol than you think you need. 3) Start with moderate upper body volume, drive it up when you get stuck 4) Rest enough so that you can complete your next prescribed set. This means rest 5:00 OR MORE. MORE. You can build str…

I wouldn't worry too much about body fat now that you've built some lean mass. I'm sitting on about 190-200lbs of lean mass here and I can lose 5 lbs in a couple days just by not eating. Why are you using sets of 6? Not only are sets of 5 standard, but good form starts to break down on the 6th rep (also supported by ECG data).

I went from 155 -> 215 in 8 months and I fucked around with shit form, shit programming, and I have mediocre genes. But, hey, I'm wrong and there's no proof right lol, just keep doing what you're doing. For everyone else, if you can't squat 365x5 after 8 months of lifting you have fucking failed yourself.

Despite this, remember: 1) a 6'0" 250 lbs guy at 20% is at most 3 months away from 225/10%, 2) a 6'0 155 lbs guys is 2-3 years (or even more, based on stupidity an laziness) from 225/10% Novices have no business on a bulking/cutting cycle. Frankly, cutting before you have a 190lb lean mass just increases the amount of time it takes to get to 225@10%

You definitely did the right thing by holding your weight about constant throughout. Now, it's time to bulk slowly. Starting and ending squat/bench/dead?

This is a hilarious sentiment. I consider 25 lbs after 8 months on the slow side. 160 (10%) -> 220 (15%) at 6'0" is doable in 6-8 months FOR ANY UNTRAINED INDIVIDUAL. Stop skipping leg day.
