If this is a big deal for you, then you are free to discontinue your relationship with him. It’s understandable why a man wouldn’t want his adult girlfriend to dress up like a cartoon character, especially with the insinuations that anime has.

A lot of the men on apps are the “fiscally conservative, socially liberal” types. So they have conservative fiscal values, but many are into polyamory, watch a lot of porn, or want a woman to fund their lifestyle.

If you love it, wear it for yourself. Wear it when going out with friends or when he is away.

Honestly, porn should be a dealbreaker from the get go.

Why are you still with him?

I was thinking of texting maybe twice a week. And his promotion is based on a congressional appointment which is why he doesn’t have s great read on whether or not he is getting it.

Thank you so much for you thoughtful reply. I never thought about him feeling guilty and procrastinating. He more so asked me if I’m sure that’s what I want because of my age and the fact that he has been cheated on during his last serious relationship which was long distance. Or that is my understanding of it from both this conversation and previous ones.

I’m just saying it’s a breath of fresh air. I know it’s not him or nobody, but I love him. We share a similar set of values, have talked about marriage in the future, and find peace in eachother. I’m genuinely happy when I’m around him. He’s crazy about me, takes me out, helps me with my homework, has been with me through highs and lows, sends me book and song recommendations, and was the one who brought up meeting my family. He is also one of the best conversationalists I’ve met which is huge f…

Thank you so much! I will definitely post into a milso group and keep reassuring him, so at least when he’s able he’ll see I’m still here for him.

I’m totally fine with the silence when he’s doing things for work, but there seem to be non-work related communication issues too. He tends to be on the extreme side of logic and rationality, but always means why he says. I’m very genuine as well, but tend to be more on the emotional/intuitive side, so we are polar opposites in that respect.

Thank you so much for your perspective! I’ve put a lot of thought into it, and also stuck out a deployment that got extended 3 times and dealt with stretches of silent then. I have a lot of my own goals and ambitions, plus a great circle of friends and family, so I’m not completely reliant on him and am able to stay busy. I’m more concerned about the fact that he expressed fear and uncertainty before he left. I’m currently really limited with work and activity due to a broken foot, so I think si…

Thank you so much. How do you suggest getting to the root of the issue? I already told him that if we were to get married, I’d want to go to couples therapy and premarital counseling. However, that is a few years down the road and I don’t want this behavior to continue for that long. Do I just need to have a serious conversation with him telling him this won’t work if he doesn’t step up?

He definitely likes me more than the post implies. He was the one who said he loved me first, brought up meeting my parents, takes me out and “courts” me, introduced me to his friends, helped me with a major homework assignment (I’m studying international relations so there’s some crossover), sends me music and recipes, and is planning on teaching me to scuba dive this summer. He’s also brought up the future and flat out told me I’m the type of woman he wants to marry and that’s why distance is …

Thank you so much. I know that when he comes back home we are gonna have to have a conversation about communication, because if he wants this to work he’s gonna have to step it up. But I’m not ready to walk away yet, and want him to know he’s in my thoughts.

Thank you. I just wasn’t sure if I should send him messages or just wait

He really is. I’ve met his friends, been to events within the community, seen his ID, been on base and reserves with him. I told myself I’d be ok with him being gone for long periods of time. I’m just not sure if I’m being hypersensitive because of the nature of our phone call or what I should do to make sure he knows I still feel good about the relationship.

He brought up the idea of 2 friends from his unit helping and knows my dad has a truck. I turned him down just because my uncle offered instead. He’s divorced and wants to remarry, but he and I both believe in being together a good while before getting engaged. We’ve talked about it and said we are the type of people we’d want to marry and see the possibility which is why distance is on the table at all.

I’ve seen it, been on the reserve with him, been to events with him, and met his friends who are also in his unit.

He went out of his way to meet my parents, takes me out, plans romantic trips, told me he loved me and I’m the type of woman he wants to marry which is why I’m worth the distance. Not exactly worried about him liking me lol.

I know my boyfriend has PTSD. If he gets promoted, he will stay here. If he doesn’t, he’ll move across the country. My end game doesn’t involve staying in my home state (California) forever. I told him this much. I’ve never been married, but he had a previous marriage. He wants to marry again and have kids. I’d like marriage and kids. He will more than likely retire within the next 5 years, as he’s been in the military for 20 years. I’m ok with the lack of communication. I have my own goals and …

It definitely raised a red flag at first, but last time he dated someone my age was when he was 27, so he isn’t a man child with a habit of dating younger women. It can definitely be hard, but I love him to pieces and he is the type of man I want to marry. This is just where he falls short. I’d rather hardships like this as part of a fruitful relationship than being stuck in the superficial, self-indulgent hookup culture that plagues people my age.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
