I guess this is the answer I was hoping not to hear but needed to confirm. I think you're pretty right. What a bummer.

We only ever talked at work, everyone else I work with is much older and very conservative so I really appreciated his presence there and I thought he felt the same. If I wanted attention I would post pictures of my butthole to gonewild. I wanted an answer from a self aware group of men whom I respect and agree with, so I came to asktrp.

This is really great to read, and helps me to understand a lot better where he's coming from. Thank you for putting so much thought into it and articulating it so well. I know his feelings are not my responsibility but it doesn't stop me from caring about them. He's such a nice person, and I can imagine that this has probably happened to him before. I know rejection really hurts and I don't want him to lose any self esteem or confidence from my personal preference and it bothers me more than I c…

I guess I feel like he wasted all that time driving me home on those days because he thought I was interested... if he knew beforehand that I wasnt, he wouldn't have wasted time and we wouldn't be in this situation now, maybe we'd even still be cool. Is there something I can say in the beginning that doesn't come off as narcissistic or self absorbed or presumptuous, before he ever made a move or hinted at interest, like "if you're offering me a ride because…

I guess it's just hard to distinguish genuine kindness from kindness with an ulterior motive.

I've really never had someone I considered a friend be so angry and refuse to talk to me because I rejected him. I always thought it was because I handled it better, but apparently not.

I wanted an answer from men, specifically men who could relate to this guy. I can't relate to what he's clearly feeling, and honestly, I don't think most women could either. I didn't want canned "you did fine, he's an asshole" answers that women (at least the ones I know) tend to give. I genuinely want to know from you guys what I should do in situations like this to avoid conflict or hurt feelings. Also, TIL red pill for women is a thing.

I honestly thought he was gay.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
