I would say the young lady probably didn't find you interesting enough to continue an interaction. Compliments will only get you so far so they should be used sparingly. An effective approach to sparking interesting from a person is to ask that person about themselves, and try to connect to a singular element of their conversation. It took me a little time to process, particularly since made the call to take her off life support. I remember having to pull to the side of the road and cry for about 30 minutes. I still get sad about my mother's passing every now and then. I recommend allowing yourself to feel sad, but don't wallow in you sadness.
